by that sense, if you're needing a rub/sauce of any kind, you failed before you ever started your smoke.
I've done pork and beef with nothing, not even a rub, that people didn't want to add any sauce to afterwards. taste the meat, not everything else in your kitchen cabinet |

I've used Traeger Prime Rib Rub on briskets, that gets compliments.
Otherwise it's usually just kosher salt and pepper |
