Yep, that was 80’s alright.  Ain’t it funny how we all lived our Actual real lives, but somehow, we choose to remember it through the Media.

The fake Media memories overpower and supplant our own.   Especially for the people who were raised on MTV, Television and Movies. I’m glad my parents made me play outside.

Found this cover band back a few years ago and they can nail a very large variety of songs spot on IMO.  Hell, I like some of their covers better than the originals....

There is still some great music being made with that 80's sound. This is a recent find. The person posting it used the Solarbabies movie to edit in some video to it, lol...

Some of us didn't have time to paint portraits of our classmates in the 80s.

Perhaps the"fake media memories" happen to coincide with our "real good memories".

Are you actually older than Gen X? You seem like  a bitter old man.

42 years later and still spot on....

[Verse 1]
I make my livin' off the evenin' news
Just give me somethin', somethin' I can use
People love it when you lose
They love dirty laundry

[Verse 2]
Well, I coulda' been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

[Chorus]
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em all around

[Verse 3]
We got the bubble-headed bleached-blonde, comes on at five
She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye
It's interesting when people die
Give us dirty laundry

[Verse 4]
Can we film the operation? Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

[Guitar solo]

[Verse 5]
You don't really need to find out what's goin' on
You don't really wanna know just how far it's gone
Just leave well enough alone
Eat your dirty laundry

[Chorus]
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're stiff
Kick 'em all around

[Post-Chorus]
(Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're stiff
Kick 'em all around)
[Verse 6]
Dirty little secrets, dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybody's pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

[Verse 7]
We can do "The Innuendo", we can dance and sing
When it's said and done, we haven't told you a thing
We all know that crap is king
Give us dirty laundry!

[Guitar solo]

Surprised to see Ed O'Neill in that video.  That was before he got married and had children.

To add, the Starship song I posted above, played on broadcast radio and heard on the rural bus ride as an early school kid brings back memories that otherwise might be lost.  I was in early elementary school and on that same bus this kid, who I remembered liked that song, but was several years older asked if I wanted to see his 'transformer'.  Sure....  He bunches his fingers up and makes like some vehicle driving along and makes this sound as he 'transforms' it into a middle finger flipping the bird.  And while I might not have known exactly what that middle finger signified, I did know it was reserved for grown ups and I would have gotten an ass whipping if I did that at home.

Looks like Kuwahara in the USA was in Compton just like NWA who would come out within just a few years.

Had a Mongoose or clone BMX painted in safety orangeish with that step behind the seat adjuster.  .Great for standing up on the bike using that and the main tube after pedaling your ass off to get some speed and 'surfing' your bike down the road.

I learned that duct tape on the seat created a sticky nasty mess in the summer heat.  The neck rotator allowed you to spin the handlebars around without twisting the brake cables up for a cool effect when you stood on the pegs while riding down county road to the little bridge over the creek where the 'bad' kids smoked their cigarettes they stole from their parents.

That video made me happy, nostalgic, but mostly sad that current and future generations won't have a shared experience.  I could name every movie/song/tv show within .5 seconds of those fast cuts (some are that fast).  Try that with 100's of clips from the 2000's, 2010's, 2020's as a decade.  I doubt anyone alive would be able to do that with such consistency.

I've talked about it a lot with my daughter who is early 20's and loves the 80's music.

There was something special about mostly everyone enjoying the same entertainment.  Now it is so fractured and will get even more specific going forward.

Not saying choice and preference is a bad thing in general, and not rooting for cookie cutter commie entertainment, but that was a time period for entertainment that will never again achieve the same reach and commonality again in at least the next few generations.

I think it is devolution.
