Who are the top recommendations for having a 1911 cut for a direct mount optic?

Also, I saw this on C&H's site,

"Any 2011/1911/STI series 80 slide that has a safety plunger/firing pin block CANNOT be milled for any optic or adapter plate due to the cut going into the safety plunger/firing pin block cavity."

Would a Dan Wesson or Bul Armory fall into this category?

If you want direct mount it will have to be one of the smaller sites such as Trijicon RMRcc or the Holosun 407K/507K. Each one has their respective cut. 407K/507K I believe also covers the Holosun EPS Carry optic.

As far as reputable people. I like Dave over at DSC Gunworks. He has a quick turnaround and does great work.

May be good or bad - I don’t have experience with it but I keep eyeballing the Nighthawk IOS. Not sure if they will do it for a non nighthawk gun though.

I tried a RMS-c cut on a Tisas 1911 duty in 9mm.  I have been pleased so far.  I used the Holosun 407k which has a rudimentary rear sight on the back deck.  It is beginning to become more main stream so expect to see more of it.  The Tisas DS guns now have integral cuts.

Direct milled RMS-c/Holosun K cut.  Green Tick Tactical with a Cerakote refinish.

The Holosun EPS is a little bigger window but hangs over a tad more.  Tisas DS 1911 cut.

Here is a post when I was considering it:

They will. I have a Springfield in for the IOS cut right now.

Do y'all know if Green Tick or Vulcan offers an option for a rear suit behind the optic?

Is that your Tisas by chance? I'd like to get a slide cut for a full size EPS but haven't seen any of the aftermarket shops preserve the factory rear iron sight.

I've got a series 80 Colt slide that I'm pondering getting cut for a RMR, and subsequently found this: https://zrtacticalsolutions.com/shop/firearm-services/gunsmithing/1911-rmr-cut

NOTE: Some series 80 models will need to have the firing pin safety shortened. This also applies to Kimber Schwartz Safety

Does anyone have experience with, and care to share your feedback regarding ZR tactical?

Top recommendation? Nighthawk IOS. Bring your friggen wallet.

But, you’ll get to keep a plate with your original irons as well as your optic plate.

IOS is great, but expensive and their wait times are ridiculous.

Chambers cut is awesome, relatively cheap and quick depending on the smith.

Agreed. I’m leaning toward DPO for my DWX. I don’t want to be locked into 1 footprint forever.

I just reached out to Chambers. If his company will do it at the listed price, that’s what better than what I’ve seen elsewhere.

ETA: with the plate it’s roughly the same price as DSC.

ETA2: Chambers cut will not work on firearms with external extractors. DWX has external extractor.

I think the 1911 slide rear sight cuts are difficult because of the many rear sight cut options available already.  Bomar, NoVak, GI etc all are cut in different spots.

Here is an interesting addition from SDS/Tisas.

Very cool!  Looking at a Stingray in the future, 9mm rocks in a 1911!

IOS is the best... and judging by the price, NHC knows it.  The nice thing about it is it's using a dovetail lockup.  AND it's low enough to use the original front irons for natural pointing.  And if you ever change optics, NHC has different plate for different footprints.

Everyone using screws is getting shit screw engagement on the right side due to the extractor tunnel... screws with with like ~2 precarious threads engaging.    If you're going to go that route, I like chambers plate that has 4 screws and it too sits low enough for standard front sight hieghts.

They will.

If Wilson ever finishes my f'ing gun I ordered and put a down payment on (~15 months ago) I'm sending it straight to NHC for IOS and porting.

15 months... and I was told "usually 6-8 months".  And comms about the delay have been shit. Last Wilson I ever buy/order.

I've used Green Tick Tactical and CHPWS.  I'd gladly send another slide to Green Tick.  CHPWS will never see another dollar from me.  The quality of the cut was fine, turnaround time was over a year and they blamed it on me.

Green Tick Tactical lost my optic, said they would send me a new one, and never did.

They also sent me back someone else's rear sight in addition to my own.

How is the optic fit? I have heard these are not machined with the proper angle.  Any issues with zeroing?
Link Posted: 3/31/2024 5:28:43 PM EDT

I didn’t have any trouble zeroing.  The provided screws were to long.  I had to file them.  The optic was very tight in the slot. It’ll have some buggered spots when/if I take it off.

The DS guns come cut for RMRcc, or RMSc.
Optic dropped right on.
The Tisas came with sights tall enough to immediately co-witness.
