Is the 47 going to replace the 17 for many agencies/people?

Do you think it is a blip and the 17 will be around forever?

With the 47 the 17 is just redundant but I don’t know if they will get rid of it since it did start it all for Glock.

I have read in a few places where the G47 is to be the replacement for the G17. Now, whether that happens or not is up to Glock. It may depend on the feedback they get from the international law enforcement agencies.

Word my Dept was told by Glock is that the G17 will continue to be offered.

The G17 MOS is discontinued and replaced with the G47 MOS (don’t have a plain version)

I for one think the longer RSA of the G17 is likely to last longer than the same weight being handled by the G19 length RSA

But I’m not an engineer….

I prefer the G17 direct milled and have several. The MOS system has several drawbacks but most agencies will go that route

Just had this G17.5 milled by Jagerwerks for the RMR HD

17MOS has already been discontinued , and hasn’t been available in a year or so. I have only been able to buy 47s for my agency for about 15 months now.

Wonder why they still show the 17MOS on their website?

My old agency did same thing.

I understand the reason for the 47 (parts interchangeability) but I prefer the 17.  Own a Gen 2, 3, and 5.  No plans to buy a 47.

I prefer a G17 with custom milling to any MOS (17 or 47).  I also prefer the longer dustcover of the 17.

Most importantly, and I do have an education and background to support it, the longer RSA will yield more longevity.

The G17MOS isn’t discontinued. It was, but Glock got the message that was dumb mistake. It’s available again.

As far as the RSA argument, the 47 will be fine. It’s like the 34 with the 17 RSA.

Of course they’d reintroduce it after I started mixing my agencies fleet of 17MOS with the 47.

Not that it matters, but it’s interesting that on the website it states that it is for law-enforcement use only (the 17MOS).

I’m surprised more Officers and departments don’t prefer the G45 over the 17. Seems the shorter slide would be easier when sitting in the patrol car.

It would be preferred if agencies were not using it a weapon light, or were using something like the TLR-7X, which sits flush.

Since so many agencies issue  Streamlight TLR1-HL, they'd give up the (perceived) advantage of the shorter slide for patrol use.

Aww good point I hadn’t thought of that.

We issue the Gen 4 17.

We are considering going to the 45.

The 17 is the best duty weapon I have ever carried.

Not sure why we wasted 7 years on the M & P 45 full size.

That’s the perfect setup and what I will continue to use. I don’t really understand the G47.

What's the difference between them?  I looked at the Glock comparison feature and the only difference I saw was a 2mm increase in slide width for the 47.

G 47 comes with a 17 length slide, 17 sized grip with 19 length dust cover and recoil spring.  You can put a gen5 G19 slide on it make a G45 or put the slide on the G19 frame to make the G49
