There's a great deal on the threaded barrel I've been looking for for quite some time in EE. Only problem is, it's a flashy gold color that I don't really want. Is it possible to get that coating off and replace it with something black or maybe polish it and leave it bare?

Generally no, it's not powder coat. It's electro plated.

Anything will come off if you want it off hard enough. But then it's very likely not a good deal.
