[Last Edit: CFII]
So, I have had this Colt Custom Carry on the list of "wants" for quite a long time, but never saw one in person. I caved when I found one online for a good price. The Stan Chen parts are all so nicely designed and fit. The grips are very grippy. The barrel fit is superb, and the bushing is super, super tight. The Gen 2 Chen magwell is as epic as everyone says it is. I also like his angled magazine release and rear sight. The ionbond finish is even and attractive, and 25LPI serrations up front are awesome. The trigger is remarkably crisp for an 80 series gun. Frankly, the only dings against the pistol are slide/frame fit isnt super tight, and the safety detent when engaging it could be a bit more positive, but when its disengaged there is ZERO float and its very audible and tactile. I knew the slide frame fit wasnt going to be semi custom level, so that was whatever to me.

It showed up at my FFL like 2 hours ago. I grabbed it, took it home, took it apart, lubed it up, and went to my range out back. Its cold and windy for some reason (thanks Kentucky, it was warm 36 hrs ago), so I just threw 16 mags in my pockets and went to town. It shot exactly POA/POI at 15m, functioned perfectly. Very energetic ejection, locked back on all the mags I tried (ETM, 47D, Vickers, Cobra), and has a remarkably good 80 series trigger. I know 128 rds of 230gr ball isn't even a real range trip, but 100% function from the start makes me happy. Once it warms up I'll shoot the piss out of it.

The pistol delivers what I thought it would, and feels overall better than I was hoping. I am compelled to try to find a 9mm one day....

Beautiful gun OP. Agree about the grips.

Hope it gives you years of good service.

Pachmeyer grips perhaps. Ivory is hard to find now. Rosewood would look good.

Super happy for you OP, that is a beautiful 45! I know you have a few nicer 1911s, how does it shoot compared to the others? Smoother?

Ha, when I said the grips were tacky I meant they will aggressive and your hand sticks to them.

As for the style, its not my fav, but Chen magwell cut grips are probelmatic to find sometimes.

Lol, that's what I thought you meant.  I think they look great with the FDE DLC.

All three of the new Colt 1911s I have bought in the last several years have run 100%.

I may install those sights on my Colt Combat Unit, I like them better than the Novaks.

Nice write up and great looking pistol. I would prefer vertical rear serrations but that is me. Glad you’re happy with your purchase.

Blasted another 100rds of WWB 230gr. Really fun pistol to shoot. Needs a touch more extractor tension after performing the 10-8 extractor test.

Thanks!

Took the gun apart, cleaned it, tensioned the extractor (which had basically none), and performed the 10-8 extractor function test and the extractor test Jason Burton has a video of.

Flawless 50 rds downrange. Ejection pattern could be caught in a 5 gallon bucket.

Wish they made these in a 5".  Even at full retail I think it's a lot of gun for the money when you price out the features.

They do; it’s called the custom competition and it’s on a 70s series.

Wood Caliber grips should work, you do need to select the option.

I recommend the combat checkering.
