I'm going to be in some commie states but want to bring something that will mimic my Glock 19 Gen5 w/ RMR for drawing and practicing dry-fire.

What would you all get?  SIRT?  Airsoft?  Blue gun?

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Basically trying to replicate this:

Does any state ban the glock 19, itself?

Just don't bring any mags for it.

Tell me about it, I'm going to be in the New England area for 4 months.

What's riskier, getting caught with a firearm or not having a firearm to protect your family?

I've been doing a ton of dry fire lately and at the very least it'd be great to not lose all that practice.

Wish someone would make a dry fire "non-gun" that took actual Glock trigger groups.

If they allow Airsoft, get that. There's a smokeless range version that projects a laser like SIRT, but has airsoft recoil.

I use a gas blowback G19 for practice. I got it for a UOF class a long time ago, and I kept it to train with. Works in all my holsters, etc.

They have some that are built up with RDS and flat-face trigger groups.

That's very interesting, how are the triggers on those?  Thanks!

Eh. They're fine for training they're kinda weak, considering they don't have to draw back a striker, so. They're not bad. Not the same exact thing, but not bad.

The blowback is cool. Pretty stout, good positive pop with it.

You can put a drop in flat face trigger if that's your jam like it is for me.

Those look interesting but it says you have to LE/Military to order them.

Taking an airsoft pistol or anything that even looks like a handgun to NY or MA sounds like a terrible idea.  Assuming you get it there successfully, if anyone spots you doing draw practice, they'd probably call in a SWAT raid and then treat it like a real gun or use some obscure imitation firearm law to make your life miserable.

IMO, unless you have to be there long term, I'd just leave the holster at home and do more range time when I got back.

I bought an airsoft one and it is the same size and weight, but any holster with tension on the slide causes it to go out of battery when holstering.

The effort to draw the slide back it almost nil.

Not that I don’t need to do this myself but perhaps focus on some other physical training so you become a better patform for your Glock when you return.

Where do you think he's going to be practicing that someone will see him?
He probably wants to kill some time in his hotel room.

Airsoft. If you’re concerned with people seeing you practicing then paint it blue. Another option would be just to use an actual dummy blue gun.

Anything coming out of NY gets checked. I travel in and out to there as LEO and it’s time consuming - can’t say it’s a PITA , as I’m a LEO, and they are cool to me.

I haven’t had issues in and out of Boston.

If I were you, I’d get a SIRT or similar and declare to void issue after they fact when they X-ray it.

I’m flying into NY on Monday, so PM for any specifics

Airsoft Glock triggers don't really feel like real Glock triggers at all if your whole idea is to practice your trigger pull. Pretty much all of them are essentially a really light, kinda vague, single-action hammer-fired trigger.

You'd probably get equally good trigger practice by pulling the trigger on just about anything else including a hot glue gun.
