He’s been slowly giving away some things as he ages. Ended up with this today. Not sure the last time it was shot but it’s in relatively decent shape overall, looks like a little holster wear. It has a translucent green front site, would that be original? Going to try and find the year of mfg when I get a chance to grab the serial number.

Never owned one and never shot one. Cool little piece though so I thought I’d share.

Nice!  Hope you can shoot it with your grandpa and enjoy time together.  BHP is still my favorite pistol to shoot.

That is almost certainly not a factory front sight, but enjoy your grandfather's gift.  Very nice.

I THINK the front sight is correct
The green paint not so much
Some places the green paint was
used to aid in low light shooting conditions
before night sights

I BELIEVE the rear sight is called a beer keg
(Nickname)Adjustable rear sight. They were only made
for a while. The dovetail for it is a different
size than current bhp rear sights. Should you
decide to replace the sights

Browning HiPowers are up in price due to
Browning/FN no longer making the original model

IE if you decide to part with it, do some research
on current prices

If I’m wrong, someone will be along to correct me shortly
Enjoy your new pistol

Can't determine year from photo but if that front sight has a green insert could be factory, especially with the rear adjustable sight. If its painted...not so much. Also if that pouch is a Browning....you might be suprised at its worth.

Not a chance in hell that front sight came from FN with a colored insert. If its an insert, it was done aftermarket, same of thats just green paint.
It IS a factory standard ramp front sight.

The classic Browning Hi-Power "Sport" model with "beer can" rear sight. The front sight is original, but the paint on it or green insert is not. The black pistol pouch with gold zipper and red lining are desirable. Guessing mid to late 70's pistol. You can look up the serial no. here for it approximate date of manufacture:

Wow that’s cool that the case is original to the gun! I just figured it was some random one he bought.

Have you looked up year of manufacture? This BHP could of came with the black case/pouch when new. I'm not for certain.

Finally had a chance to look it up. Appears that I was produced in 74. The case came with the gun. Black leather, marked browning with a red felt inside.

that case is worth 300 to 400 if the leather isnt cracked, get some leather treatment on it, moisturize it. give Gramps' a big hug..

Obviously your Grandpa is a man of wealth and taste.

What did he tell you about it?

Ask him for some details about the gun maybe he has a good story to go with it?

Never, never sell it !!!!
