Dw. Fit and finish are a lot nicer, especially duty coat or whatever it’s called.
Source. I’ve owned a bunch of each. |

Yeah they’re not even in the same league…
Fit and finish is much better on DW…hand fit components vs parts that are matched my feel Tool steel components vs mim Duty treat vs cerakote |

TRP is no slouch, but I think the DW wins here.

Specialist.
Specialist has a better level of fit, finish. Years ago, checked out TRP several times at LGS but never bought. First Specialist I got in my hands = I bought it - there is a difference and it is nice. I have shot other people's TRP and don't like the 20 LPI checkering on the front strap - DW uses 25 LPI and it is much easier on the hands at the end of a long shooting session. The TRP owners even mentioned it. With gloves on I bet it would be great but I am slow speed and don't wear gloves. BTW - they both said they should have bought the Specialist - maybe they were just being polite but to me the TRP didn't operate as smooth while shooting. Try to shoot one of each before you buy. Both guns are very accurate - more accurate than me. MIM - Springfield uses MIM. I had MIM go bad on a Springfield Range Officer and up until then I had no idea they used it - never paid attention. Warranty? Replacing MIM with more MIM doesn't make sense to me when there are better, proven options available. Add new trigger kit to the initial cost of TRP. DW uses tool steel parts inside - so far, so good. Only problem to come up - The DW had grip screws and sight set screw come loose - I put blue locktite on mine and it remains fixed. |

Dan Wesson, no question.

Never ask a man if he is from Virginia. If he is, he'll tell you. If he isn't, you don't want to embarrass him.

I got a Springfield Garrison that malfunctioned right out of the box due to the underside of the slide being rough and unfinished. I took care of that with a file and replaced the thin grips and some MIM parts. It's a decent range gun now, but I don't take Springfield seriously anymore.

Thanks everyone for their insight
I think the DW will be the choice |

I own both and the DW is WAY better, however, since the colt acquisition CZ customer.service has gone to hell

I've never owned a Dan Wesson but I've seen them. I'd definitely take a Dan Wesson over a Springfield. I have a Springfield that's pushing 20y old. Except for the crap guide rod having to be replaced it's a good gun

I have two TRPs customized by Saltzman with some 10-8 Performance parts.
Outstanding guns…. DW makes solid stuff as well. I won several single stack competitions with the no rail a few years back. Attached File |

I own both;
A Range Office Elite Champion, and a DW Guardian, both 9mm. Both shoot extremely accurately. The bull barrel in the Springer has/had a tight chamber, so some ammo could be problematic. Springfield fixed that. MIM in the RO, no MIM in the Guardian. The Guardian is a match traditional barrel/bushing design. The DW's finish is awesome and even, the RO's finish, black T, has worn dramatically. I carry the Springer as my EDC, only because I had it dot-cut. It runs really well, and I trust it. Fit and finish, and no MIM, DW wins hands down. RO Attached File DW Attached File |

If you can, get both. If you have to choose, in my opinion and experience, TRP. Love mine.

I had/have a Springer Mil-Spec and Garrison. I have a DW Valkyrie and SS Valor. Both Springer's have had issues. Sold the Mil-Spec and added WC BP Extractor and FPS to the Garrison to get it to run. Both DW's have run right out of the box...even during the break-in...and have never even come close to a malfunction. I am sadly disappointed with Springfield Armory. |

New Springfield Stuff is meh, prodigy was a disappointment and needed significant work to run.
My last two DW are pretty awesome on fit and finish. DW vote |
