I found this '84 production Bulgarian Mak listed by a shop in Eastern Michigan. While speaking with the shop owner and agreeing upon a price, he provided some back story on the pistol. Evidently the previous owner had Carniak's Custom Troy, MI install Novak sights and send it off for a matte hard chrome refinish. Marianne Carniak couldn't locate an invoice without the previous owners name but, she recognized the pistol, verified the sight installation, and that they had it sent to Ford's Custom for chrome.

I changed out what looked like Russian red bakelite grips with the thick border around the star for a clean set of East German Black bakelite grips. The sights are a huge improvement and it proved to be a great shooter.

I had checked with Novak's for sights and a couple of shops that still do HC. While not cheap, I paid less than it would have cost to have one of my pistols customized.

The 1st 2 pics are so grainy it looked like the gun was sandblasted with peoples!

But the last pic made it make sense looks GREAT love the sights. Maks are rock solid guns and nice carry pistols, tough as nails and accurate. Awesome finish and those sights kick ass bro!!!!
