Sounds like the old Beretta Cougar with the rotating barrel. Problem with suppressors as it'll unthread the can from what I've heard. But it's a cool design idea. Of course the Browning action remains king.

I could use a M&P 5.7 in my life.

According to the patents this has a barrel sleeve which is threaded, which the rotating barrel rides in. This would fix that issue.

Love the idea.  Hopefully they dont ruin it with a shitty trigger or a grip that feels like you're holding a dog turd.

Lots of trademarks that are live and fairly recent. No clue if any of these would be used.

Edit - above link may be expired. See follow up post.

alas the trademark search is listed as 'expired.' What should we search for, 'S&W'?

How's the trigger? Performance Center level, Apex Tactical M&P level, or mediocre?

I would say it felt just like the standard m&p 2.0 trigger, except flat.

Somewhere in between. Take-up was cleaner than the M&P 2.0, the break kind of rolled instead of being really crisp, had some over travel. I liked it, but it's not refined and will not be confused with an Apex kit.

Great review, thank you. Look forward to seeing your wife test the pistol, as I think a major market for the pistol could be women and those that are recoil sensitive.

Very curious to see how the fixed threaded barrel plays with Fiocchi's new 62gr Subsonic 5.7

I see the trigger is an internal hammer design- my question is, is it more along the lines of a Glock, as in perfectly safe to carry without a manual safety? I know some striker fired pistols have, in an attempt to have a great trigger pull, had a setup more akin to carrying a single action pistol cocked with no safety.

I greatly prefer no manual safety, but want to be sure this would be safe to carry this way.
Link Posted: 1/24/2023 1:15:05 PM EDT
[Last Edit: Evintos] [#31]
Seems pretty safe to me. Trigger shoe safety prevents inadvertent rearward trigger movement. Firing pin block prevents firing pin movement unless pushed out of the way by the trigger bar. Firing pin spring biases the firing pin rearwards preventing forward movement unless struck with the hammer.

Edit to add side note - based on design, trigger job could/would involve hammer spring, hammer spring strut, hammer & sear engagement surfaces, firing pin block and trigger bar engagement surface, firing pin block spring, trigger return spring.

Can't see how it'd be unsafe to carry it without a thumb safety based on design...

So you can only mount small optics like the RMRcc or will regular size pistol red dots fit too and just hang off the sides a little?

Mrgunsngear

I appreciate you posting a link to the video, I’m going to have to sign up for Rumble now.

Has anyone tried it with a 5.7 capable .22 can? I wonder how my Sparrow would do on it or if the barrel is concentric enough being a 2 piece design.

Pretty excited about this one. It’s about the same height as a 365 macro, same width, just longer. Might see how this works out on the hip haha

This is on my list now, I have had a couple FN 5.7s and currently own the Ruger 57 but would gladly own this S&W when I get my hands on it. I like the optics mounting better than the Ruger and of course the recoil should be even lighter.

Would the Holosun EPS or EPS carry be a better fit for this gun?

And what's up with that unsightly gap at the front of the frame and slide? It looks like the front of the frame is drooping.

Yeah, that looks terrible, you'd think they'd have mad an adjustment to the mold or something.

Their response

Thanks for contacting S&W today and your interest in our products. I have not heard of this as being a complaint. With the pressure of the recoil spring, it can sometimes cause this. It normal and a cause for concern. Thank you, SWCS

I still want one though.

Nice, can't wait for your impression on it being a soft shooter like the YT vids have been saying.

Me too, I briefly owned an FN 5.7 and I’ve shot the Ruger. I’m also gonna put my heavy YHM turbo on it and see if it cycles. Since the threaded portion of the barrel stays fixed, it may work.

Okay it was getting late so I only ran a couple mags through it. Mine does have a slight gap. it’s not as bad as mrgunsngears example but it’s there(doesn’t bother me). The felt recoil is indeed like a .22 it’s barely noticeable, going to be awesome once my EPS gets here. I also can confirm it’s cycles with my heavy ass YHM turbo. I had one fail to eject in one mag with the can on( I did not clean/lube it at all). The trigger is amazing,  im used to flocks so that’s not saying much. My brother was with me and after shooting a mag through it he’s ordering one.

ETA : pitchers

So I didn’t notice this, but mine is missing the extractor! I have no idea how the hell it even functioned . Looks like it’s going back to Smith and Wesson.
