For a rifle length barrel in 5.7, which I am doing on my tc encore - mgm recommends a 1-7 or 1-9 twist. They gave others all the way to 1-16. What do you guys recommend?

Just go to build a barrel. Choose your chamber and caliber. When you get to 5.7x28 look at the twists |

Found some old info on the FN forum. They say 1-9… https://www.fnforum.net/threads/fiveseven-twist-rates.8403/. I also google best twist rate 5.7x29… and
What is the best twist rate for a 5.7 x28mm? The common rifling twist rate for this cartridge is 1:228.6 mm (1:9 in), 8 grooves, Ø lands = 5.53 mm, Ø grooves = 5.62 mm, land width = 1.63 mm and the recommended primer type is small rifle. |

Someone needs to do the math on the RPM at 16" MV. My high school physics was more than 30 years ago.

Well CMMG uses a 1-9 twist on their 16 inch AR15. https://cmmg.com/resolute-mk4-5-7x28mm-16-1

1:9 will suite you well from 28-62gr. If you want to shoot heavier than a 1:7 but the usefulness of HFC .224 pills will end up being subsonic in the 5.7..

Looking at the M&P 5.7 and various twist rates- S&W uses a 1-9. My encore barrel will be that then.

Know where their "independent" gel tests are posted?
At this point, I don't expect 5.7 to do rifle type things at 2300 fps, it's a faster smaller .30 Super Carry in bigger guns. Just do well in gel - a lot better than .22 WMR. |

Finally got around to shooting mine.
I had ingested wayyyyy too much caffeine that morning so I wasn't as steady as I'd like. Accuracy was more than acceptable with Gold Dots. I was dinging clay birds at 110 yards and shot a pretty good group at 25. Had one stoppage, failure to eject. I didn't clean it before shooting and there was heavy grease on everything from the factory. That could have been the cause. Oh... All shooting was with a 9mm can with no booster. It is a sweet combination. |

Didn’t notice any gas. Quiet. It’s a good performing can and the locked barrel helps I’m sure. No idea actually. Need to do more testing. It’s not the can that will live on it forever. It’s a bit heavy being more of a subgun/PCC can. I didn’t know that you shouldn’t use 22 cans on the S&W before I bought it. It was an impulse buy… |
