I don't own nor have I held one, but did anyone else expect the micro when it was announced would be smaller. Say like the size of a glock 42?. More of a pocket-size carry.  Maybe it's just me

I've always read and seen that it's a direct competition to the 43x.

Nope. Only makes sense for them to do the small double stack 9 route. 43x/48 sells way better than the 42 these days.

You're thinking of the Mini-Macro-Dagger©®™

The Micro Dagger (G43X "clone") certainly isn't "micro".  It's what Glock considers a Slimline Subcompact Crossover (slim, compact-height frame and subcompact-length slide/barrel).

I do think a Glock "clone" with:  a Micro Dagger (G43/G43X) slide assembly; a frame that's as thick as a Micro Dagger (G43X/G48) frame and as high as a G43 frame (subcompact-height); and a 10-round magazine (using the Micro Dagger magazine design) would be very attractive.  It would essentially be an OEM Glock G43 "clone" (more of a pocket pistol) with a slightly thicker frame that holds 10 rounds as compared to the OEM Glock G43's six rounds.
