Have seen the All Black version "LE Only" (SKU 13808) at places like Bud's, Shooting Surplus, and Range USA for retail sales to non-LEOs...

Problem with stripped frames is I think several of the "metals" parts are different from the polymer ones. IE the locking block. That might cause issues finding the parts to complete it.

Interesting. Haven't seen them for sale for Non leo.

Edit: I did see it at RangeUSA but didn't know if that was a legit site.

Have built one, only real difference is the sear block assembly, which MGW sells.
Don't need the detent bits for the slide stop.
Don't need mag release, it is included.
Everything else, including the locking block, is standard 2.0.
If you buy an Apex trigger they have a specific kit for the metals.

On mine the sear block was a little loose in the plastic insert that comes with the frame, so i added some internal shims to snug it all up.
Not sure why it had so much room side to side.
Runs like a top and shoots like a laser.
If i miss it's my fault.

Yup, Range USA is legit. It's a nationwide chain of gun stores / shooting ranges, one is near me.

Range USA used to be called Point Blank range.

I have one in my area. May have to give a look there for a black model.

I got you. I will not attest to functionality, however, it fits, it dry fires correctly.

I'm assuming all the internal parts are compatible with the polymer-framed versions, correct?

I've been very tempted by a number of the metal framed M&P but have managed to resist so far.  In fact, today at lunch I stopped by my LGS with cash in hand.  Fortunately I had researched online and wasn't willing to pay a $200 premium to save a week (shipping time from online to a FFL friend).

There are a lot of YT videos about these.  People seem to love or hate them.  Not a lot of center ground.  A major compliant seems to be slide-to-frame fit and the triggers.

I will say I've handled several and the grip texture is .... AGGRESSIVE.  If you're into self flagellation then by all means AIWB carry without an undershirt.

Grip texture is the same as any 2.0.
You can knock it down or swap in a 1.0 grip insert if you don't like it.

Slide fit is also the same, it uses the same 4-point 2.0 rails seated in polymer bits.
The frame being metal doesn't mean it's going to be as slick and tight as a hand lapped 1911.
It's just a 2.0 that's a little heavier and a little stiffer.

I'd lose money considering I'd have to buy a non-threaded barrel. The coin and knife will cost me money in the original purchase but will sell for peanuts on the EE. At best I'd break even on the barrel by selling the original barrel and comp but it's more hassle than it's worth to satisfy a non-essential desire to have a green M&P.

I'd imagine that it would not be hard finding someone who wants to trade a non-threaded barrel for a threaded one.

I have a couple of friends who just acquired the metal model. and definitely would trade their non-threaded barrels for threaded ones.
They also would have preferred their grips less aggressive. That’s an easy fix with sandpaper.
