Looking for some of the brownish red P38 grips. I’ve always thought they looked the best. Are they Bakelite or wooden? I don’t know much about the P38 since I just picked one up.

The original bakelite grips had asbestos in it and baekelite had been good at its time but has long been replaced with better options.
The pictured P38 is an early post war pistol that has been used quite a bit and has neither the reinforced slide, nor frame reinforcement. The P38 of that vintage was sold from the factory with the black plastic grips, or for a little extra with SILE grips. |
