I see a lot of comments about the heavy DA pull and then talk about going to LEM trigger setup that eliminates the SA functionality for a light/smooth DA only action.

Is there a reason not to carry/use the USP as a Cocked and Locked SA pistol?

Nope. Feel free to carry it cocked/locked if you please.

Good friend of mine carries a HK45C cocked and locked exclusively. He's never had an issue, treats it like a SA only pistol.

Only concern to me is accidentally decocking while taking it off safe, and having to unexpectedly shoot from the DA pull.  But then again I really don’t mind the DA pull on the match USP trigger (is it that much better than standard?).  It’s really not that heavy.

My Expert 45 came with a detent plate that deactivates the decocker. It's just "Fire" or "Safe" now, as I noticed my thumb likes to ride the safety lever juuuuust enough to make it an issue if the decocker function is active....

You need to get a variant 5+6 detent plate. That will give you a manual safety like a 1911 with no decocking capability.

I used to compete with one in idpa. My motion of sweeping off the safety deco led the gun often enough that I moved on to a different design.

If all it takes is the detent plate and bo other trigger parts then everyone might as well have both plates.  Top Gun Supply and HK Parts are both OOS now for the 5+6 plate.

ETA - they’re in stock plenty of places.

That stinks.  Should have tried the other safety detent plate as mentioned above.  I haven’t shot this gun from a draw yet, and I’ll have to find out if I do have the same issue.  I like the idea of carrying in SA mode.

Yep.  I carried my USPc condition 1 for years.

And yes, if you ride the thumb safety, recoil can result in the thumb slightly depressing the decocker function.  The result is a dead trigger until the safety lever returns to the "fire" position.

I would recommend the detent plate.  They're cheap and easy to install.

Ran 250 rounds. Gun is a Lazer Cannon.

However more than once I depressed the safety causing it to not fire.

Adjusting my grip so my thumb was on the side of the safety pushed rounds to the left. Also can't hit shit on DA.

Ordered the 5-6 detent and mag extension.

Cocked and locked is the only way I carry my USP45.  Reason is when North Dakota winters come around, you need real gloves to deal with our -30 degree temperatures.  The USP is one of the few designs and at the top of the list amongst those that allow a heavy glove access to the trigger without problems and easily allow trigger reset.

For anyone wondering, changing out the detent plate on the USP and HK45 series is very simple. You literally just field strip the gun, push a pin halfway out, slide the detent plate out, slide the new detent plate in, then push the pin back the other way. You don't have to remove any of the fire control parts or need 3 hands or anything.

Totally.  This is why I was saying it would be nice if the V1s just came with both plates.  They’re swappable with minimal tools in about 30 seconds.

When I was an armored car drone I carried a usp45 cocked and locked for years, when I went over to casino work they required same caliber/ammo as lvmpd so I grabbed a p30l in .40 with the lem trigger. Shortly there after I converted the usp45 to lem as well to maintain muscle memory (was still part time on the death boxes). I really did prefer cooked and locked honestly. The only downside was when qualifying they required first shot to be a double action if possible.
