I’m going to be making a kydex mag pouch for my BHP mags and this is my first time with kydex.

For anyone who’s done it, is it better to use one piece of kydex and just fold it over with Chicago screws at the edges, or go 2 piece and Chicago screws all around? Is kydex appropriate to use for the belt slits or should I buy dedicated loops?

I’ve got the kydex (.080 I believe). Ive got an old toaster oven large enough for my sheets (12” square) and the screws. The press I can easily make. Plenty of basic hand tools.

Any suggestions,tips, hints?

I’m watching plenty of utube vids and it just doesn’t look all that horrible to do.

For me, 0.08 is thick for mag holders, but will work fine.
Good for making the belt loops though.
I use two sheets and rivet all around.
Just make sure the mags are fully loaded when pressing.

I picked the .08 with the idea that’d have enough strength for the belt loops. With no experience I was concerned .06 wouldn’t hold up. Good reminder about loading the mag for sure!

I prefer the sandwich technique with two pieces of kydex and the gun/mag between them.

Make sure rge mag is loaded before pressing.  You might also want to have defensive ammo in the mag, or at least the top(exposed) round.

I make my mag carriers using a fold over technique. be sure to use a dowel to help with the fold. i started 10+ years ago and enjoy doing it. plus ive never had to buy a holster again. i sell a few on ebay and to buddies

Nice work! I’ve never seen Tiger Stripe Kydex, now I need to find some.

To the OP, a toaster oven works fine. Watch your heat because the edges will curl if the piece gets too hot. Don’t forget to tape a dowl to the top of the slide to create a channel for the front sight. A heat gun works well for tweaking the shape and adjusting the tension around the trigger guard. Good luck, have fun with it…

That’s looking awesome. Very much appreciate the tip about using a dowel. Life has been busy and I haven’t had free time to do my kydex project but this coming week should be better.  Thanks for the info and motivation
