Think we could get a list of who's signed up in the OP like we had last year? It was cool to be able to see who was competing. Unless it's being kept non-public for reasons. That's cool, too.

Go ahead and move me to a staff spot, I'll backfill for @elcope

Those of you who went last year, do you feel that NODs are imperative?

Because you crave sugary soda and it taunts you to creep ever closer to the edge. Drink me. It says. Also cougars and stallions. But every year will be different. I did fine without nods. There was a decent amount of moonlight.
Sunset will be later in May. Moonrise will be after midnight. |
|
"Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property...Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them."
|
Imperitive? Probably not once your eyes were adjusted. The clouds sort of covered the moon that was available, but it was still a fair amount. Were they helpful? Definitely.

The guys with nods had a clear advantage last year, especially when the "no visible light" rule was in effect. That said, the land nav portion was doable without them. I bailed not long after dark, but that was more about me being a pussy than it being impossible.
Sucking at land nav is a much greater handicap than lack of nods, I'd suggest being sorted there. |

I dont think the guys with the weird green hats used nods and one of them found all his points. I have done a few night land nav courses in arizona and washington without nods and under red light rule and had no probs finding all points back then. Thermal is critical though for detecting the chupacabra that roams those parts. |

The Illinois irregulars will be bringing an alternate SDV this year. It's not nearly as opulent as Scarface's rig but it'll haul a shitter.

Getting close, any chance of an equipment list any time soon?
I'm mainly interested in any changes/additions to last years list, but I'm sure there's new participants gearing up as well. |

Anyone looking to drive out from VA?
I have a truck, but optimistically I am looking at a 1400 dollar fuel budget, so getting two or three people to ride along to share the cost and cannonball-run drive time with would be awesome. Flying is out for me, I hate, hate, hate flying with long guns. |

You might also consider linking up with @theradbaron and crew in Illinois and carpooling from there. |

Got the email last night from Ben and it looks largely the same as last year.
I'll need to get a rangefinder and potentially running 223 out to 700 will require some glass. |

Reevaluate for next time. |

You may not both need the capability to hit that distance. There are definitely some great to be made if partners are paired for the whole shebang. |

What would lead you to believe you will be pair with a partner the whole time this year? I'm saying nothing except that you better bring all the mandatory gear. Also, if you know someone who wants to attend, please encourage them to get signed up ASAP. We are closing in on the deadline. Try to keep the thread bumped in GD as well...located here. |

@Ben, when is the deadline for registration? My neighbor (BB 3rd class) has been on the fence for months, need to let him know the clock is running out.

Are we encouraged to wear specific attire during the challenge? |

OD field jacket and coyote brown pants is the APC "uniform" if you're not mil.

Usually events where it gives us value by letting us at a glance identify who is U.S. mil and who is civilian from a distance. |

Top is TruSpec, next is Propper( with modified shoulder pockets and velcro), Helikon Tex, and bottom is a Vertx. Attached File |
