My son has to take his driving test. Problem is, my wife's speedometer is messed up; above 25 mph or so it starts buzzing and the needle starts bouncing. I don't know if it's the cable or the speedometer itself.

Would this disqualify her car? When on a road trip, I use a phone based speedometer to stay legal; would this be acceptable?

I also doubt anyone is going to make a fuss over your speedometer.

Well, test day came and went. The official tester (a DMV contractee, to whom we paid the test fee) was a very nice, older lady. She had him drive around, make a few stops and turns and when it came to the parallel parking test, she had him park between two cars that were way far apart.
Speedometer didn't even come up.

Out of town, we use DigiHud on the cellphone.

You can buy a GPS speedometer on eBay for $20. Use Velcro or mounting tape to put it on the dash. I've got them in a couple cars.
