I was at the self checkout getting a can of spray paint and the register went crazy saying I needed assistance. She had to put my birthday in for the spray paint

Hasn't that been a thing for some time now with some retailers due to the kids using it for tagging? Could be just retailer policy. Remember many moons ago before a state issued firearm permit/certificate was needed Walmart would sometimes ask me my age (ignoring that I was obviously not under 21) when buying ammo (typically pistol caliber that could also be used in rifles).

When I buy beer at the grocery store I tell them my birthdate is the month and day that it is and make up a year. When they say happy birthday I look at them and say today is not my birthday.
