I'll be hitting a couple casinos for a few poker tournaments.  im aware I can carry in the casino and the worst thing they can do is ask me to leave but are there any places that have security checks before I can go in? So if we go there ill leave the gun at the hotel

If you are going to any event, a show, probably the track, the Neon museum, etc you will go through a metal detector.

I rarely go through metal detectors at shows. Maybe four times. And I go to a lot of shows. Big name concerts or sporting events it's guaranteed you will go through a magnetometer. The Palms, Westgate and Park MGM use them. And the theatre at Miracle Mile, can't remember the name.
