Hello!  My son is in BMT and is looking to put Columbus as his top pick for state side assignment.  He loves to hunt and fish.  How is the area for that and include anything else you feel might benefit him.  Thanks!

Sorry, I am not near Columbus---but I am sure that area will be very accommodating to his hunting and fishing needs. That area is pretty rural, but safe and friendly. The whole state is one big hunting and fishing place (except inside the city limits of larger towns.)

You will get more feedback from locals in that area if you join and post in the Mississippi Gun Owners forum: https://www.msgo.com/

Both should be fine. Plenty of hunting clubs around there but most run dogs. Plenty of lakes to fish.

The Tenn-Tom Waterway is minutes away. Lots of Corps of Engineering land to hunt and miles of water to fish. Noxubee WMA is not very far. He will literally be in a Sportsman's Paradise.
Lots and lots of deer in MS. There were essentially begging hunters to take an extra deer this year since most people don't limit out. Limit is 5 does 3 bucks plus an extra velvet  buck with special permit during early archery season.
Lots of wild turkeys and waterfowl galore. Catfish, bream, crappie and bass galore. Still hunt clubs are available and dogs are not allowed on WMAs for deer as far as I know without looking.

Weird. Thought I might have run into your son. Airman, on facebook, bought a mailbox from me  said he'd just moved here. So I asked and he said his dad isn't on arfcom.
