So, last week, our school sent out notices that tuition is increasing to get more of the state money. From $2400 for a single kid to $5000 per single kid. No more discounts for multiple kids or being a member of the parish. It won't affect us, as we're below the income level where the money starts phasing out, but there are a few families that are going to see their tuition increase. They do make pretty good money, but still will have to pay more tuition. Not totally unexpected, especially hearing the other stories.

Yup, like I mentioned on page one, that also happened to my nephew.

Prices rise to soak up subsidies.  It's like a law of economics or something.

And they are not reducing the fees for registration or the fundraising assessment. Registration is $250 for 3 kids and there is a fundraising assessment for people who don't do anything throughout the year. Basically pay one time to help out the school a little. It was $225 this past year.

If you haven't filed your taxes yet, look out for a $500 per child credit for being in nonchartered ot private school during 2023. We do our taxes on Freetaxusa and it came up as an extra step. We did the filing and then had to fax the tax department copies of invoices and payments for 2023. We went ahead and did 2022 and 2023 because we pay the year in full at the beginning.

They got our fax and accepted the paperwork, so we got an unexpected extra $1500 back for our 3 kids.

OK, so the tax software only gave me half the story. The state denied our extra $1500. You school has to be on the approved list and your AGI has to be under $100k or $50k to qualify for the levels.
