My loyal & trusty Honda mower has stopped starting.

Anyone know of a inexpensive place in the Round Rock / Pflugerville / Georgetown area that does small engine repairs?

Thanks for any recommendations.

What are the symptoms?

Small engines are pretty simple - air (filter), fuel (filter, carb, choke), spark (plug), lubrication (oil).

Sometimes I pull the cord & it fires right up first pull.

lately it won't start when pulling no matter how much.

Have run synthetic oil and checked level to ensure it was not low - changed oil last week.
Drained fuel & refilled with fresh gas
Changed new spark plug & ensured plug wire boot is firmly seated
Fresh air filter.

Think something in the ignition is shorted or maybe carb is clogged.

Mowers have a deadman lever.  If it's not held down, motor stops.  Follow the cable and check where it goes into the side of the motor to make sure it's fully engaged when the handle is held down.

It's a pretty common failure point.  Especially if any of the clips supporting that cable have broken.  Ask me how I know.

The Power On lever - bar affects throttle, plus there is a switch at the back of the mower the cable pull depresses, plus there is a metal contact that opens off the "ring" at the top of the engine that evidently sets the ignition spark signal (has two contact points which match two pickups on the ignition system.

I'll try to take pictures later today after Church.

95% chance the carb is clogged. You can fix it with some carb cleaner, ether, brake cleaner, etc. and / or blow it out with compressed air. You can also try a very thin wire — twist ties can work.

my dad who was quite handy did that. Loaded it up and took it to my uncle jack to fix because he could not do it himself or the thought. Man did Jack laugh about that for YEARS. My pop not so much.

Am I really going to have to wait until Page 2 for someone to actually recommend a decent small engine / lawnmower shop?

They did some work for me many years ago.  I was happy with it.
