I'm no game warden, but I believe you can carry a handgun, just don't use it to shoot any turkeys.
As for the license and ammo, I would call a local game Warden and verify your questions. He or she might have some tips on where to hunt or maybe even some land owners phone numbers. The game wardens numbers should be online or in the guides.
Spoke to a NE game warden today 9 shot is okay Carrying a handgun for personal defense (not shooting nuisance animals like coyotes or dispatching game animals) is okay
I do not need an additional out of state license if it’s only my minor son hunting
