I have been given the go ahead for a local Random thread.
Topics to be covered? Whatever you want, please read the CoC if you think your post maybe borderline. Cars, motorbike's, any other hobbies that you may have, funny pic's (please nothing gross), joke's, your home town, places that you have been, things that you have seen or done that you think maybe of interest to us, AR15 weapons related or not. I'll be starting the €uropean gun laws thread at the weekend, and as our resident Australian has so kindly volunteered to do a post on Australian and NZ laws I'll be more than happy for him to do a write up on their laws too, for informational purposes.
Once the laws thread has been completed we can probably learn something about how they came to be, either through criminal or acts of terror. Tony |

Well done Lancair for your contribution to the Firearms laws thread, as my relatives live in NSW. they probably aren't into shooting..
It's quite good to compare the ten round magazine capacity limitation that the Brady Bill (USA) brought with it and your Hi-cap magazine ban. The first few rounds count, after that you are in a gunfight and should have at least 2 or 20 spare magazine's, . Okay who's next? Tony |

Since it's a random thread, I'm looking for ideas for a Christmas present for the wife, say under 200 Euros....
ETA: She has no interest in shooting I was leaning towards a Dyson.. |

I'm lousy at choosing presents, but I'd say a bottle of perfume and a romantic meal then on to the cinema, but like I said, I'm the last person to ask. I let my wife get herself whatever she wants, and then I pay for it, last year I bought her a saddle that she'd been after, and that cost me €500+, and got me one happy wife. Now if you really want to have fun at Christmas, I'll give you my sons present lists,. I just want a pair of socks or two, maybe a stupid tie, and something useless to keep them company. The Acog or the S&B PM scope that I fancy will not be appearing at Christmas.... Tony |

Well the festive season is upon us yet again and I was wondering if some of you would like to tell us about your Christmas custom's that are typical of your country?
In England, as children we'd go to bed on Christmas eve (24th), having left mince pies and a glass of brandy for Santa and a few carrots for the reindeer, then not be able to go to sleep, the next morning at sparrow fart we'd be up and wide awake, Presents yipee. I feel that my kids are missing out, the German way being that we adults get to work until lunchtime on the 24th Heiligabend, then it's off home, some go to Church, and when they get back it's Meal time in Bavaria we have Weiß wurst and brezeln, then its present time. How do you do the Christmas thing in your country Tony |

The Glock17, it was an interesting course, table 1 was at 20m with your gun and a magazine of 6 rounds, and at table at 10m two you had a second magazine with 6 rounds. The targets were a plate that you had to knock over before you could engage the two half covered IPSC type targets, with two rounds, and there was a dangling cone for those great shots who knocked the plate over with the first shot and engaged all the targets with double taps to shoot. Then it was run to table two load and engage the 5 knock over targets and there was a balloon for the last shot. Best time was 24,?? seconds and no I didn't get anywhere near the 50% score that I would have liked. I enjoyed it so much, that I'll be doing it again and have started training for it with the Co² air pistol that I have in the cellar. Now all I need is to get my shoulder sorted out, since my accident my pistol shooting skills are sh!t. Oh well I was just at a new Doctors and he seems better than the wasters that I have been going to. Tony |

Are there many IPSC matches near you? You are down by Munich right? It would be fun to do some matches when I am in Bamberg. I don't have any friends that shoot in competition.........only hunters. |

I may have to wait till after the Global Financial Crisis is slowed a bit.
It's getting as bad as Germany to find work over here. |
|
Run with scissors!!!!

We are all feeling the bite, work is slow, as we generally harden things that are used in the metal or automotive industry, parts for vehicles or tooling parts.
Here's the problem as I see it, the Banks and Car makers are getting the bail out, but just how much of this money will trickle down to the shop floor worker or customer. If the banks that have received a financial packet still fold, who will get their money out first, the investors or those who have an account with them? Have a look at what a middle class family car will cost you today in €uro's and what that car would have cost you had you bought it back in 2000, in Deutsch mark etc. I was recently looking at getting another car and was at a dealership, they wanted €6,900 or DM13,800 for a 10 year old Mitsubishi Carisma with 60,000km on the clock. The sales person just didn't understand me when I said that the car wasn't worth more than €2,000 of my money, and did he get his pay doubled since the €uro was introduced? I could buy a new Dacia Sendero for €7,500, but that's still DM15,000. I'm not stingy, but I do believe in telling the retail or dealerships what's hot and what's not with my money. Don't even start me on the price of ammo, German surplus .308win MEN ammo cost's €300 if you can find it, and in the UK, less than half that price. The English phrase "fools paradise", seems to fit the bill, and maybe we are long overdue a melt down of some sort. Okay the German Government introduced the 2 year guarantee on used vehicles which has forced most dealers to send their cheaper cars to other countries or continents to save them any future heart aches, or was it them twits in the €uropean parliament? Okay your thoughts Gentlemen please, Tony |

With the new President of the United State's of America there have come some new policy ideas, amongst which can be found here. About two thirds down the page you will find the following chapter.
Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent. Our American brothers are facing some hard times in the near future, and are turning to the NRA and similar organisations to help enforce their constitutional rights guaranteed by the 2nd amendment. The fourth amendment is under attack, "The fields ruling". FOURTH AMENDMENT [U.S. Constitution] - 'The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
The 22nd amendment is also being repealed, which would do away with the current two terms of four years that a President can serve. Now to my question, do we as mainland €uropeans have in our individual state nations or on a €uropean level such an organisation as the NRA In Germany we have the Forum Waffen Recht, which has a membership of less than 32,000 and is tame in my eyes, so I'm not (yet) a member. Then there is the Deutsche Jagdschutzverband who concern themselves more with hunting rights than they do with gun laws, and whose attitude to the semi auto weapons used for hunting is so divided that if push came to shove they would fold rather than fight for their members rights to have them. We have been historically divided in €urope, due to our country's borders, culture and national identity, has the time come for us to unite on this front I realise that we don't have a €uropean constitution as they have in the United States, well we do but it doesn't have a second amendment as the US one does, here is what I found on wiki having googled €uropean Constitution I found this and followed it to this, but then only the British and Spanish are mentioned which doesn't cover nearly enough of €urope. Went quad riding just outside Opava CZ yesterdaz with my brother inlaw. There is some good dirt riding here in CZ and people seem real lazed back about you riding through the fields or on the street. My wife is from Opava we have an apartment here and visit once a year. I still have not been able to go shooting yet but it seems the gun laws are not too bad. Considering I am from CA. When I ask about bringing mine here no one seems to know. Weather should get better before I go home next week so maybe I will get to shoot some full auto stuff. Im lloking forward to the scorpion.

Had the unmitigated pleasure of helping zeroing a friends service rifle today with his newly issued red dot sight, an Aimpoint CompM2. 20 shots of black Diemaco/Colt Canada C7 plastic goodness with proper ammo: RG from 2001 18 clicks up and 2 right smack in the middle at 300 meters.

I just got back from the local Polling station here in Hicksville Bavaria Germany, and am pretty annoyed that I wasn't allowed to cast my vote, as I didn't inform them of my intention to vote prior to 17th of May. Okay maybe I'm being somewhat unfair, as I have only been living here since 1992 and am registered to vote in the local elections. I automatically assumed that I would be registered for the €uro election as well.

Alan Map 500 Warning!!!!
I have just had the pleasure of playing with a B grade Alan Map 500 GPS handy, well to call it a B grade (seconds) was a disgrace, as it had obviously been on an expedition ( screen was scratched and the general appearance was grubby), to the end of the world and back, it had the €urope basemap (lot of use that is if you are in the middle of hicksville), installed, and the data cable was included as was a (home burned) CD rom with programmes to add to the GPS's hard drive. The explanation of how to upload that data was sketchy to say the least, and I have to admit to having tried it out in German, then in English and failed on both accounts. So they are getting it back in the next few day's. With most electrical appliances that I have programmed in the past the included software opens a programming interface which has several advantages, some of which include parameter selection and one of the most important is the selection of the com port etc etc. POS... Time to revive this one with a question .
Do we have any Ham radio operators on the €urope HTF I'm only asking because I was browsing through "you tube" and happened upon someone who's location isn't all that far away from myself and he was DX'ing to the UK from Munich on the CB band. As I used to be into the old CB I went and bought all the stuff I'd be needing for a home base, PSU, SWR & patch, 20m coax, Intek 550 and a solarcon Antron 99 which I still have to set up. If anyone is a CB user maybe we could have a little DX competition Tony |
