any one had luck un-dying?
i tried to get a stealth grey with rit pearl grey like others have successfully done but these came out denim blue. they actually look great in that color... just not what i was after. ive tried to over-dye them with black but they dont seem to want to take on anymore pigment. |

Every one but the the band looks like a rock star.

We're going to try the undying this week.
My buddy is aiming for a nice chocolate brown, and we have two green magazines from experiments. So we're going to try Rit's color remover and see what that does to them. |

Would like to see a "zombie green" that is greener than the mags above. More like the Hogue Zombie-X grips. a I'd like to customize a few mags for my 3-gun rifle to match some of my other gear.

Do you have any info on matching a sand Pmag to the Coyote Brown of the ACR? I've found some recipes online, but they use FDE Pmags as a starting point.

(Perhaps the greener zombie green you were thinking of?) View Quote That's a lot closer to what I was thinking. Considering that you aren't starting with a pure white base material and it's a dye not a coating. When I can, I might experiment with the base pads to fine tune it. |

I'm just interested in what rit dye or mix of rit dyes gets closes to magpul's pink.

Other colors appear to be honest. Getting zombie green and the grape colors were just like the color guide said they'd be. |

That article is where we started this adventure.
While interesting (and inspiring), it didn't help much with finding a color they didn't test straight. Rit also makes a lot more colors than they tested, like Lemon Yellow. |

The fact that they didn't put stock magpul furniture in the photos for comparison makes me go

However, MCT is the color the military specified so you can't blame Magpul for that one. Apparently, the Army now has a requirement that all new small arms programs be made in the medium coyote tan color. Really, we should be glad they are releasing it at all; Magpul could have just made it for the military and not released it commercially. Or the military could have even asked Magpul not to sell it, kind of like what the Marine Corps did with Colt and the Colt custom shop M45A1. |

I got plum by using FDE furniture as a base and black rit dye.

While searching for pictures of Plum AR I found a place called Echo 93 that does the set for you at a cost. I haven't ever messed with Rit Dye but don't see it being too complicated and would like to give it a go myself if I can get the Plum look that they achieved. A picture ripped from one of their sets, I absolutely love this look - http://jerkingthetrigger.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/e93-plum-AR.jpg It would be for the FDE MOE furniture since I believe that is what takes it best. An odd question though, have you ever tried using Rit Dye on black furniture/mags? I wouldn't be too surprised if you could get a really dark plum hue from using the purple or another shade on the Magpul Black. All I have at the moment are black sets, but will definitely be getting FDE to try this out if you know of a formula that works. Thanks for your time! View Quote |

The dust cap was 1-1/2 tsp Pearl Gray and 1/2 tsp Taupe for 8 minutes, the magazine is 1 tbsp Pearl Gray and 1 tsp Taupe for 4 minutes. I don't have anything Stealth Gray to compare it with, but the picture comes out on my computer the same as my eyes see it. View Quote Any more photos? Perhaps in daylight or on a dark background? |

I have a K2 grip on the way that I want to dye to match AK shellac finish. I am thinking either cocoa or harvest. Are you heating water directly in the pyrex dish or pouring in boiling/simmering water from a different pot/kettle?

Breadpan of just off the stove boiling water.
2 tablespoons and 2 teaspoons Lemon Yellow. 2 teaspoons of Aquamarine. Let sit until you get the shade you want, about 4-8 minutes. Recently I found you have to shake the Aquamarine very well if it's been sitting! |

I have an FDE shotgun stock that I want to OD Green. I've done one before but didn't turn out green enough, was more brown. I saw that using 3 capfulls of dark brown gives an OD Green on the sand mags pretty close to magpul OD, would the same work on FDE?
