If you've qualified as Rifleman, post where and when.
For me, July 29-30, 2022 at Newberry, SC, 232 score Requalified with an annoying 236 score that did not earn a Distinguished patch October 29-30, 2022 in Gaston, SC. Took an Orange Hat October 30, 2022. |

Last fall and on 2/20, will post more details
|
|
|
I shot a barely Distinguished score (231) with my 10/22 and Tech sights last weekend in Gainesville, TX
I also took an Orange Hat as well. |
|
|
Many years ago. I suppose I should look at getting back into it.

Earned my first Rifleman in Oct of 2020 in Gaston, SC with a 232. Got two more between April and Oct 2021. Newberry SC, 223--with an AR in 5.56! Charlotte NC with a 234 but I could only attend the first day due to a move. I finally earned my Distinguished Oct 30, 2022 in Gaston SC with a 242.
I've been practicing so I can earn my 250 rocker. I've got my sitting and prone positions dialed in, but offhand kicks my butt every time. Until I get that figured out, those 8 little points I need for a perfect score may as well be on the moon! Attached File |

|
August 12, 2009. It was the first Appleseed I ever attended and hosted at my home town range I was president of.
I'm on the far left and now a shoot boss and the guy beside me in the orange hat is now my neighbor and one of the red hats in Kansas! I took my orange hat from Fred when he came out to run a shoot at my range. Attached File I was shooting a ban era Bushmaster A2 I purchased used in 2000 and shot Wolf steel case ammo. 6 MOA is about the best that ammo would shoot but it was enough! |
|
|
My high score is 242! Gonna try hard to get a 250 next go around. Attached File

First event, Oct. 2015, El Paso, TX. Scored Rifleman and took an Orange Hat in May of 2016. I think it was a 219. I have the target around here someplace.
I do all right. Still haven't hit that elusive 250, but I do ok. |

Shot an Appleseed last fall and managed a 248. I shot the first day without a coat and and the next day with a coat. I think the coat gave me about 7-9 points over no coat. Fun time on a beautiful fall day. |

i'm going to my first appleseed in July....
What does it take to shoot distinguished? Thanks |

210 for Rifleman
230 with irons for Distinguished 240 with a scope for Distinguished 250 is a perfect score |

College Station 12/4/22 I think it was. Basic 10/22 carbine with tech sights and bulk CCI ammo. I refused to use better anything until I got Rifleman with that.
Switched to an optic and my LVT and was shooting mid 230s still with CCI bulk. Hoping to chase down Distinguished here one weekend. I might actually even use good ammo too. I'd also like to get it done with center fire too. I have to drive at minimum 3 hrs for a class unfortunately. I'd love for us to have them closer. I think it would do well. |

Long ago at Ramseur. Rifleman Boot Camp and several Appleseeds as well.

I earned a Rifleman patch (237) with my Savage FVSR and scope using federal black pack on Sep 19th of 2021, and the same event I used a 20" AR using irons with a 22LR conversion to squeak out a rifleman score (217).
I went to another event and used my FVSR with a proper web sling this time to shoot distinguished with a 244 on Oct 2, 2022. I am still chasing that elusive 250! I plan on attending a rimfire and centerfire KD this year as well. I have enjoyed the instruction I have received at each of the events I have attended, I am positive it has made me a better shooter and I have learned something new each time. |

And even if I can SHOULD I? View Quote I can't see your image, but you want to wear a shooting coat there is nothing stopping you. I just did the first day without it for shits and giggles. You are basically shooting all day and a coat makes it comfortable. Even if you don't wear a coat, you are going to want somthing for padding around your arm. I wore a sweater and a tight fitting fleece over that. Without some kind of padding it's painful. |
|
|
You can certainly wear a shooting coat if you want. Absolutely. Just remember that Appleseed teaches field shooting. The disciplines are definitely compatible, but if you're out in a field taking aim at a buck, it's a good bet you won't have your shooting coat on
|
|
|
When I think of field shooting, I think of what PRS shooters are doing or even possibly what is going on at Ft. Benning last week (U.S. Army Small Arms Championships). I think I would disagree with your definition.
I would say that Appleseed is teaching fundamental three position marksmanship. The use of a shooting coat and a sling does facilitate learning those fundamentals because it makes it steadier and more comfortable. |

No one will stop you and your arms will appreciate the padding for the sling. |

Perhaps.
But a shooting jacket is neither required nor necessary to build and refine solid fundamentals. |

Ooohhh. I guess I could have looked at a map and seen that for myself lol
I'd be very surprised if there were a single range in the Houston area that hasn't been approached, now than once. But maybe it's time to try again. |

The second RBC held at Ramseur, NC. Either February of 2004 or 2005 (not sure which year - the Appleseed historians would know).
The instructors for the week were Birdman, Son of Martha and (sorry I can't remember the guy running the RBC's RWVA user name, might later). Got a 219 or 221 at 25 meters later in the week and a 211 (if I remember correctly) on the full distance AQT the last day of the RBC. It was really windy that day and the wind was shifting every little bit from one direction or the other and changing speeds as well. You could look at the flags, look through the scope, look at the flags and the wind was different, that fast. The M1A didn't care as much as the .223's had to care. The neat thing about the 25 meter scores was my back was really hurting and getting in/out of prone was tearing me up. Son of Martha walked over and said, "I can tell your back if bothering you. You've got a pretty good sitting position, why don't you shoot the next AQT using the sitting position for stages 3 and 4. I did and still got the 219. Then a little bit later I did it again. Got that target somewhere with the info on it. Might be in the garage. |
|
How you live your life is important. Just be sure the memory of how you died doesn't overshadow the tales of how you lived your life.

RBC #2 was Feb. 2007. You attended.
