Made it out to SW CO again this year (last second deal). The outfitter I used last year had a hunter back out ~ 2.5 weeks before the hunt and needed to fill it fast - they remembered my phone number
Hotter than Dante's 4th level of hell this year. Rain the week before and then the heat of opening week (and a few days before) made everything green, blooming and thick. It was alot of hard work and hard miles.
I didn't see as many animals this year. I like to move around, but sat one afternoon on water this year. Bored out of my mind. Passed on a bull that I thought I would regret - he was out there, at about 58 yards. I've made similar distance shots (and longer), but wanted to hold out for something really big. I killed a big bull about 5 miles away last year and I knew there were some giants in the area.
My patience paid off. I arrowed this smoker about 30 mins after daylight on the 4th morning. Ecstatic isn't the word. Biggest bull i've ever killed and not sure i'll ever top it. The guides had never seen this bull, so no idea where he wandered in from.
