What packs do you prefer? Elk hunting in the mountains, I’ve used a badlands superday pack for a few years. I hear a lot talk about the mystery ranch packs and a few others. Let’s hear your thoughts

I have had really good luck with Kuiu, and would buy another.
Kind of a mutt, US made carbon frame, bag and suspension are vietnam. Attached File I think I’m on year 7 and still in great shape. |

I have a Mystery Ranch Metcalf and love it. Bought my son a Kuiu Pro pack and I am very impressed. It is much lighter than the Mystery Ranch. If it carry’s game as well as the Metcalf it will be my next pack.

I've used Sitka, and Kuiu, I just moved on to Stone Glacier and have been extremely impressed they are expensive though...

Eberlestock mainframe with 2 batwing pouches is where I've ended up after many different models. Love that it's a pack frame with a solid shelf. Plenty of ability to snug the load down and keep it tight to your body. The pouches have plenty of room for whatever. The belt has plenty of molle for smaller pouches if you want. The shelf makes the pack into a pretty sweet backrest when sitting on the ground too.

I'm going to try out a mystery ranch pop up 28 or 38 this year for my cow elk tag. I only day hunt, so I don't need to pack camp in, and I will only be hunting cow elk every 2-3 years, so I'd rather get a high quality day pack that can handle meat hauling vs spending the money on a larger more expensive frame/pack system just for the every few years chance I have to haul elk meat.
I know guys love the pop up series for packing deer out...cow quarters will be right on the edge of comfortable from what I hear regarding this frame style. We'll see if it works or not. If not, I've use a mystery ranch metcalf, and it was solid, so I'd probably get one of those. |

I have 3 years on my Sky Archer 6400. Definitely expensive but it's not something that will need replaced for a long time. Stone Glacier makes a high quality product. |

I'm using the SKY5900, it worked out to be the most versatile for my needs.
I wanted a pack that would go from day pack to 4+day pack with the ability to pack meat out in any configuration. |

Stone Glacier. Eberlestock a distant 2nd, IMO.

Kifaru. USA made. Expensive but nothing is more comfortable when I am loaded over capacity.

Mystery ranch sawtooth 45. My group of friends are slowly transitioning from the metcalf to the sawtooth. More maneuverable, better openings, and just fits our hunting style. The metcalf or bigger would be great for bringing your tent on your back, but it is overkill most of the time. The little sawtooth is great for archery.
