Intended use? Just as a handheld scanner or do you need to ID a target for a shot with a weapon?

I've had my Pulsar Helion XQ30 for 3 or 4 years now & have been happy with it. They have newer, which are smaller models out now.

Because that's "very good" territory. 2-3K is "serviceable" to "decently good" territory. |

Will be used for Security around the house, and my wife wants to see what animals comes around.
I saw some of the 5-8K versions they are incredible, but way more than I need, I was looking at the XG-35 but did not know if it is good, on sale for 2499.00. I also ordered the Night Vision: L3Harris M914A (PVS-14) Unfilmed White Phosphor 2376+ FOM |

Buy a good thermal scope, put QD mounts on it, use as monocular.

I got a hogster scope in that price range. I think they are now closer to 3k or more

Very happy with my PARD scanner. It’s like having super powers

Check out the Armasight Sidekick 640. New to the market so not widely available yet but MSRP is $3299 and it has onboard recording and ability to accept a 16650 battery. They also have the sidekick 320 for $1999 and I’ve had hands on experience with one and it’s better than the 320 FLIR Breach I’ve had for about 3 years. Also, FLIR can get fucked asking $2800 for a 320 Breach these days.

I am checking into the Armasight Sidekick 640 it is on sale for 2999.

If I decide to go up to the 5-K range what recommendations do you have?

Higher power means better detail at distance but a narrower field of view. Also consider battery life, ability to swap or add a power pack, range finder would be a plus for open country use also. |

If I had 5k to spend I’d probably buy an n-vision. However for your use case you can get something that will blow your mind for 2500-3000.

A hunting buddy has a Pulsar Thermion 2 rifle scope that he really likes. I have shot with it, and like it too. I prefer my Bering Super Yoter 50, but don't think that you could go wrong with either brand. |

Just invest the same money in a second 640 thermal scope for a second rifle, maybe a compact, lower-magnification unit for short(er) range use. Keep it in QD mounts for use in the scanning role when you're out with the primary rifle. |

My suggestion is rent before you buy. There’s a couple of site sponsors who do this. Personally I’d go the quick removal weapons mount because it holds value better than a monocle.
