Does anyone know if someone (preferably an American manufacturer) makes shorter versions of the common phillips/flathead "keys"? Thanks

I don't know of any other suppliers of those.  But I question their usefulness.  You can't much torque out of them.
I EDC carry a lightweight multi-tool that is truly useful in many situations, including a screw driver with a lot of torque.
It's so light when carried on your belt you forget about it.  Yes it costs more, but it's much more versatile.

Every time I go to Countycomm, I spend more than originally intended.  Suggest that you sign-up and begin accumulating "points" to defray cost.

I have found these bits to be super soft, and the pliers themselves only to be used in the lightest of edc, so it's got that.

Oh, yes, CountyComm is an endless rabbit hole.  There are similar sites.

If you think you'll be buying stuff from CC, then immediately register with them, as doing so gives you "points" towards future purchases.  Ask me how I know.  By all means shop around, but while comparing prices, also consider vendor warranty.  If vendor supplies with an equally defective item, their warranty is worthless, in practical terms.

I've bought a lot of stuff from CC, and it was all as advertised.

Some fasteners don't require a lot of torque to loosen, or would require wearing a bulky multitool. Thanks.
