Jumping in not knowing the flavor of the koolaid. On those weed and feed make sure to read the chemicals and use the right one for what grass you have. 2-4d for Bermuda and atrazine for st Augustine. If you have a bad dandelion problem doing some homework on preemerge might help. Usually with glyphosate and 2-4d if it’s applied at least 4 hours before rain it’s usually good to go.

View Quote NOTE: He speaks truth! BUT..... In case anybody is reading who has no idea what @runs_with_scissors is saying... DO NOT SPRAY GLYPHOSATE ON A COOL SEASON GRASS. THAT MEANS FESCUE OR BLUEGRASS OR EVEN ZOYSIA (even though I'd like to see zoysia ALL dead) OR ANY OTHER GRASS THAT DOES NOT GO COMPLETELY DORMANT IN COLD WEATHER. DO NOT SPRAY GLYPHOSATE ON ANY COOL SEASON GRASS EVEN IN THE DEAD OF WINTER, EVEN BELOW FREEZING. JUST NEVER DO IT. If you are going to spray glyphosate on your lawn, it has to be dormant. Not just sorta dormant. I mean like Graveyard DEAD dormant, kay? Which means you have warm season grass and it has not started to wake up yet. Or you have to have a genetically modified cultivar in your lawn like ProVista. If you have ProVista, you likely know it and you likely put it in, so you likely don't need this post, but.. Just in case.... Ask questions here or in the lawn thread if you are conmused or befuzzled. |

HOWEVER...spraying unwanted weeds with glyphosate, and killing the grass around it in the process...doesn't make any sense. When you kill that grass, you leave a bare spot where more weeds can invade. Use a herbicide meant to kill whatever weed you are trying to get rid of. Yes, that requires some effort. 1-Identify the weed 2-Identify the type of grass you have 3-read a label. 4-Read it AGAIN. 5-Mix the RIGHT AMOUNT of herbicide into the sprayer 6-Spray it PROPERLY. Not too much, not too little. And your results will be much, much MUCH better. You know...killing ONLY the weed instead of a 12-inch circle of grass along with the weed, then having to deal with the results of that. Yeah, killing ONLY the weed and letting your grass rock on...that's a good choice. 2,4-D will take out dandelions. 2, 4-D is cheap. A bit of soap (or surfactant, if you're feeling jiggy) will take it farther. You could add other stuff if you wanted, but if it's common broadleaf weeds like dandelions (easy to kill) just a few minutes choosing the correct herbicide will yield good results. So when it comes to spraying glyphosate on common, everyday weeds, and killing grass in the process of taking out that weed? Compared with that, Weed N Feed looks like freaking atmospheric physics. Weed N Feed is a MUCH better choice. Millions of people use it with good results every season. |
