Rifle: Tikka  T3X TAC A1
Caliber 6.5 Creedmoor 1:8 inch twist
Scope: Night Force NEF with Moar T 5X22
Ammo: Hornady 147 grain ELD

Distance 1000 / 1 mile

Distance 1000 / 1 mile

Background
I just turned 60 and just retired from a police department.  I am a long time rangemaster and shooter.  Qual’d on Revolvers, semi auto pistols, shotguns, sub machine guns, patrol rifles (what the media says is assault rifles I guess) I never really did scoped rifles or long range, but my friends Dave & Greg do.  When I retired they bought me the Tikka.  Turns they each have the exact same rifle and wanted company.  Who knew.

Over the last couple of months we broke the barrel in, then shot at 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 yard ranges.  This rifle shoots pretty flat.  Better than my .308.

At 1000 yards
A couple of weeks ago we worked up to 1000 yards.  Anyway it shoots at 32 MOA. Windage was 10 MOA with a wind from the north (shooting east). I was pretty happy with 5 hits in a row on a 3 ft round gong.

1 mile
This morning we re assembled at the ELR range because I wanted my “Mile patch”.  Damn thats a long way.  At a 1000 yards I can barely see the target with the naked eye.  At a mile it requires a spotting scope.  The gong is 4 ft round, painted white with an orange 1 ft circle.

8 rounds total fired.  The scope stopped at 72 MOA.  On my friend Daves advice I backed in down to 70 MOA.  The NF scope has recticle marks down to another 20 MOA.  That was still not enough.  I had to hold up to the end (or bottom) of the recticle (see the pic) half of what looks like a tall half hollow house. I am guessing a 1 mile shot will be about 95 MOA for a 6.5 Creedmoor out of a 24 inch barrel using the Hornady 147 grain ELD round.  Add 4 MOA for the wind (shooting north to south) and bang.  Rounds 7 & 8 were hits.

I was so excited I stopped right there.  I guess anyone who reloads could do better, but I don’t.  Dave and Greg do, they get my brass.

Eta: I am thinking a 300 Wing mag on an AI platform will be my next ride .

Thanks.  Still somewhat new to this.

It is a lot of work, but well worth it when 6 seconds later you hear “bing!”

It is extremely gratifying isn't it OP to hit way out there? I shoot a 300rum, and have been out to 2000 yards with it..which was far easier then I expected due to the power of the cartridge and a lucky almost no wind day...still funner then shit though...

That’s a purdy rifle.

Never heard of a 300rum till you posted it.  Is it pretty close to 300 win mag ?

An AI is what you seek. Amazing they are.My son shoots for them. I had Never even dry fired his competition rifle and scored a 1000 yard impact on my first shot. Of course he doped the shot and called the wind but damn. I'm staring 70 right in the eye and for me it was a great feat. The equipment and his coaching made the shot for me.

Nice shooting.

What if I told you that you could buy an AI and shoot 6.5C and 300 WM and 338 LM out of one rifle?

AI makes a great rifle, and while they are incredibly durable they don't magically shoot better than other well made rifles that are out there.

I am running the same chassis with a t3x  barreled action. Phil make a great chassis and promotes the sport. Proud to help support that

@chrishag
Well, you can't say that and then not post pics..what kind of post is that....
What options have you gotten and what have you liked/still want?

Action and barrel are from a Tikka T3x CTR . MPA chassis with spigot mount. Larue adapter to install the Harris bipod. Burris XTR II 4x20x50 mounted in Burris rings. YoDave trigger spring.  I forget what brand bolt knob I used. Scope base was removed and replaced with 20moa one. Can is a cheap YHM phantom.

It's all about ballistic coefficient -- and, here, the 6.5 rules the roost.

Since you have 72 extra MOA in that scope, I would get a 20 MOA rail and a 20 MOA Unimount. Your scope has the mechanics for it.

Similar setup, except im running the krg xray with the enclosed forend.  These guns still amaze me with out the box accuracy.  Im about to load up a bunch of 123SMK, and take them out to distance.  Only thing missing from the factory is a little speed.  Still no complaints on my end.   LOVE them...

One of my students used an RPR in 6.5CM and a Vortex Viper PST Gen2 5-25x to shoot a man size target at 1 mile. It took almost no effort to get him there.

Congratulations.

For the mile shot with the factory 6.5 147 ELD you need ~95 moa/37.3 Mil elevation from a 100 yard zero.  The NF scope lacks the internal elevation adjustment. A cant base and or a cant scope mount will be needed. FWIW  the 147 ELD will go transonic at ~1500 yards (rainbow trajectory)

A few weeks ago we were out on the desert, target was ~36 x 36 square at 2000 yards.  We were shooting 338 Lapua Maghum, one Savage, one Ruger.  I am using the Ruger with a built in 20 moa base, NXS  scope 300 Gr SMK.  Ran out of elevation by ~ 5 MOA.   I was ok at a mile.  After 11 shots I was able to connect.  We had a similar target at 2500.  After 5  "where did it go?"  I gave up

We also brought a couple of 6.5 CM.  Up to 1500 yards were were doing ok, beyond that distance spotting the shot becomes a challenge.  (Pentax 60 X 85mm)

Reloading for ELR is fun

I have the same rifle but in .260
They make a 20 moa rail for it, that and 20 moa mount like a spuhr or ARC rings and you can dial to a mile without the holdover
