Hi all,

I'm new to bow hunting and have been doing some scouting in the woods for deer sign. Can one of you more experienced guys tell me if the below are deer scrapes... or could they possibly be caused by something else?

Thanks!
Jimmy

Look more like old ground a hog has dug up to me.

I'm going to say those look more like something been's rooting around instead of a scrape.

Is there any small broken branches/limbs above the scrape?

Looks like turkey scratching to me.

A buck scrape will usually show the actually scraping of the hoof and many times will be prints inside, also there will always be a branch over hanging the scrape that the deer chews on while on the scrape.
You can usually see the direction the bucked scraped the dirt.

Turkey scratchings, wind blown bare spots....hard to tell.  That last pic could be an old scrape, hard to tell.  What part of Mo are you from??

Quoted:

Ditto
Deer scrapes will usually follow some terrain feature like a ridge top, a ravine even a rock wall and there will be a series of them if you can determine the route, which is often, but not always a game trail of some sort no matter how faint it is.
The 3rd picture might be a scrape because there is a small limb overhanging it.
You'll often find rubs nearby the scrapes too.
