Awesome thread!  I'm searching for a donor truck now.
Found a very clean long bed 3/4 ton '94 GMC at a good price but it is 2wd.  I'm holding off a bit hoping something 4wd pops up.

Well it started out as a flatbed only. I like a wood deck because stuff doesn't slide and it stays cooler. Then after buying stuff for the flat bed, wifey is like....a dumpbed would be awesome for hauling some rock and gravel, wood etc. So it morphed into a dump bed. So for me it made sense to make metal sides for damage control. Also noise control, throwing stuff into a metal bed is loud...

This darkness at 1900 and 35* is frikin stupid.

I think I figured hinge idea out so I made a test pc and then mocked it up

Attachment Attached File

Hole drilled and reamed for 3/4" SS pin to be welded in, they next picture is what happens when china clamps have sex with steel chunks/remnants

Attachment Attached File

Okay...those pics are....dugh...Yes I lick windows.....

And I gotta empty the bed with shiat I brought from work

So left off with a hole drilled for pivot pin, since it was drill from 2 different sides the pin didn't go through...solution? A 3/4 inch reamer
Attachment Attached File

Then I rounded corners so they wouldn't rub and bind during movement
Attachment Attached File

Then I cut and mocked/mounted pin retainers/pivots
Attachment Attached File

3/8 x 1-1/2 ×2 plates mounted, ready to drill
Attachment Attached File

Okay those are done, pins will be 1/2 inch diameter, 2 at the top and 2 at bottom so tailgate can pivot both ways or just come off
Attachment Attached File

I still need to trim pins

Started on tailgate, yes this is moar complicated than it needs to be.
1st I am going to incorporate a set of steps in the gate, so when it is down we can get in bed easier.
Attachment Attached File

Attachment Attached File

Testing movement
Attachment Attached File

Used Sunday evening to clean old boxes out of moms basement ans yes we did live there 21 years ago
Attachment Attached File

Hope to finish it this weekend, I still have tons of welding to do, what is done on tailgate is just tacked.I ran out of wire

I wonder how much that bed weighs? I've hauled 2 tons in a single rear wheel F250 and it was down right spooky.

I might come down there and bring wine or beer, and joyride with her. We won't go far. Just back and forth to the dump pile.  Maybe she'll let me pet the horses.

Wonder if a gorilla lift like the one on my trailer would be workable, somehow, on that dump gate?

There is a tally in a previous post, am on phone and its a pain to find, I haven't updated it yet.

Considering it had 5th wheel rails and gooseneck parts under bed, I am not to much heavier than a stock bed..."wink"..."wink"..

Also was it a 7.3 or gas? Extra wt up front makes a big difference

I found this ole lady trying to get scooter out w/o hitting my truck, I felt bad...why?

Attachment Attached File

I watched her for a min. And she doing her best (last p.o.s. left at the trash can in front of my bumper, she is parked to the left) I walked up and asked her if she needed help "no, I am okay just being careful" I said excuse me and put key in door and unlocked it. "Mam' it's okay if the scooter hits it, I appreciate the fact that you care, it needs paint anyways...lol" "plus don't hurt your self"

She thanked me and cussed out the asshole that buried the scooter...

Our greatest generation still kicking ass

So why was I there

To get these 235x85x16 E rated tires, singles dont do the job when overloaded...plus 2 off these "work" tires are cheaper than a mud tire...almost

Latest purchase was from southwestwheel dot com, basically it is a 10 lb steel adapter, they fit very tight and I would recommend putting new rear rotors on if you do it, not fun to take off since they are "pressed on" so to say.

I got the hubs, nuts and wheels delivered BEFORE I got my tracking info! I ordered on Monday about lunch time and they were delivered wensday before lunch by brown truck (delivered to a business)

Below is MY opinion and not scientific
You will hear a lot of bashing from people about bearing load etc...a single tire will try to pull up as wt increases with the dual adapter the inner wheel actually holds the load with less bearing strain and the the outer makes it all good to go imho

(I will probably cut lower step off after spring replacement if not needed, still think I need it for mama)
