last year i bought a uniden bcd-369xt trunking digital scanner so i could monitor local traffic. it took me the better part of a year to make it functional. after finally getting it programmed i found the stock antenna was deaf as a post on 800mhz. On the suggestion of a few freinds i picked up a radio shack 800mhz antenna and the difference was drammatic but i was still not getting the county 800mhz system due to being on the edge of the county.
a few weeks ago i stumbled onto this little antenna amp.
http://universal-radio.com/catalog/scanners/24220310.htmlthe reviews i found were almost unbelievable so i decided to give it a try. after a couple days use i am sold on this thing. it claims 20db of amplification and appears to perform as designed. i am now able to pick up signals inside my house that i couldn't get 10-12 miles closer into town. my scanner now reports full signal on channels it reported nothing on even with an outdoor antenna connected.
it's little less than 1/2 the size of the scanner and runs about 20 hours on a 9v battery. also has a 9v dc input for ac power.
if anyone if on the fringe and looking for a good boost in performance i highly reccomend this little unit.
