By the way out team is moving up in the ranks.  It was 507 when I started folding about a month ago. Now we are 488.

If the whole hive was in on this we would be #1 in a year! lol

http://fahmon.net/ <- cool program to monitor you folding rig and calc your PPD.

Get one soon. Rumors are circulating that they are disco'd. I am scrambling to pick up two more.

GTX 295 is being unveiled 1-8-09 which is a dual GPU card with 2 GTX 280 GPU's coupled with 1GB 448 bit GDDR3 memory for each GPU.  Kind of a dual GPU cross breed between the 280 and the 260.  I'm going to pass on this one give it the full 512 bit memory buss of the 280 and they might have something.

The GTX 285 will be unveiled 1-15-09 which will be the 280 GPU shrunk with a 55nm mfg process.  It will have higher clocks than the 280 and use less power.  Suppose to be about 10% faster than the 280.  The big qustion about this one in my mind is how much less power, how cool does it run and does it have more overclocking headroom then the 280.  I'm interested in the 285 depending on how much it costs.

At the lease it should drive down the price of the 280 that are already in stock.

As it is, I've moved up to 42nd. Not bad for a laptop and a couple desktops I guess.

I am just running my video card on my desktop, not even running the CPU one anymore.

You almost caught me. The power went down on my 280GTX rig over about a week. Back up.

FEEL THE PAIN BITCHES!!!

Im still coming after you and Im only using one client. Dont make me boot up another machine just to do that

What are you using?

Seriously, just get another 4870. X2 is not worth that price.

I want to pick up another two 280's now that everybody has 285 and 295 fever.

I'm out of the running (have been for a while, actually). All my servers are belong to us... No, wait. All my servers are back to doing that annoying "work" stuff. You'd think pumping fibre channel IO wouldn't interfere with Folding, but alas Folding has a noticeable impact on IO and fault injection.

Bummer.

Hell yes it would. All of the processing power in those servers is sucked up folding. No time to move data.

I just went through the list, we lost ALOT of users, I think it would be easier to count how many left we have than how many that actually have a client running.

My rig with an i7 and two GTX 285's puts off so much heat that I'm probably going to shut it down as the weather warms up.  I will start it back up when things cool off again.

My room has been a balmy 80*F all winter while the rest of the house is cold.  I'm sure the Air woun't be able to cool my room this summer with my rig running.  :(

I joined up, figured I'd see what this was all about.  I remember seeing something about this on tv about a year ago, for the ps3.

Anyways...got the GPU client currently running.   It's taken about 1.5hours to get 10% on a job size of 8 million, FahMon says my ppd is around 2100 which, going by what I've read, isn't the best.  I wonder if there's a way to speed that up without swapping video drivers...I'm a gamer and don't want to lose performance elsewhere to gain performance with this folding.

PC Specs:

OS - Windows XP Professional  Service Pack 3
CPU - Intel Core2Duo e8400
MB - MSI P7NSLI nForce 750i
RAM - 2x 1GB DDR2 PC2-5300
HDD - 2x WD Caviar SE 16MB / 320GB SATA-300 7200RPM
Video - Nvidia GeForce 9600GSO 768MB DDR2 PCI-E

Dont watch is folding, just let it run in the background. I have pretty much the same setup as you. Same processor and ram. The video card you have is faster than mine, its in the other machine in an i7 setup.

Get yourself a GTX 285 and both your folding and gaming performance will go way way up!! I have 3 GTX 285's folding and they produce 7k to 8k ppd each.  Plus run games at 1920x1200 with just one.  I can SLI them but I like leaving the other two folding while I game.
