     The left side of the vehicle floor boards has the electrical wiring and brake lines going from the control panel to the engine and the steel conduit is heavily rusted. |

 Did some interior painting tonight ans installed the heat and noise shields. This should make the vehicle better to drive.     My assistant was less than helpful

Koni 88 series shocks The bushing on it says Koni 151-180-04 They appear to be Koni 88-1006 models, but No longer made Look at the logo here

Anywhere joe bob gets parts for his 83 dodge d100 I can get parts despite the made in switzerland part of it. The biggest hurdle so far is finding adequate replacement shocks. They're made in Europe and stopped being produced in 2001. The nearest replacement from Koni is about 3/4 inch wider but almost the same in every other way. |

This vehicle will be a runner so anything that makes it run better is good. Thankfully disk brake swaps are easy to do and documented on Dana 70s. Drum brakes work pretty good on these vehicles, I have them on the BRDM and it's 50% bigger than the roland. |

Progress update. I’m in the last 20% of the interior.
    Ive been using a LOT of harbor fright tools lately, especially the Icon series tools. Unfortunately their weird sizing meant the 1/2 impact socket set didn’t have the 30mm socket I needed so I busted out ye olde Tekton which had it. Same kit ive had for years and has never let me down. |

The seller backed out on sending a bill of sale so I guess it's it's a bonded title.
I do have a wire transfer receipt, I hope that's enough for a bonded title and the vehicle does have a temp tag issued in Michigan. |

So after countless painstaking hours of research and discussion with a Koni CS rep I did indeed successfully identify the Shocks on the roland AND get some specs for a baseline:
Model-88 1006 MinL – 331mm (13.03”) MaxL – 502mm (19.75”) Dust cover OD x Shock body OD – 64mm x 55mm Damping forces – Tested at .33m/sec (13in/sec) Compression – 300N Rebound – 3450N The 88 1006 went out of production in 2001 in Europe. The closest I have been able to find is this: Brand: Gabriel Manufacturer's Part Number: 89461 Part Type: Shocks and Struts Product Line: Gabriel Heavy-Duty Shocks Summit Racing Part Number: GAB-89461 UPC: 043645752651 Ride Height: Custom Extended Length (in.): 19.96 Collapsed Length (in.): 13.31 Adjustable Valving: No Gas Charged: No Upper Mount: Eyelet Lower Mount: Eyelet Bushing Material: Rubber/Steel Bushing Color: Black Boot Included: Yes Boot Color: Blue Body Diameter (in.): 2.370 Quantity: Sold individually. The upper OD is:  I checked front, rear, and in the front with the steering at full lock and no clearance issues what so ever. It's only .125 larger on both sides, 2.75 vs 2.51 OD. No issues with clearance at all. And unlike the brand Koni suggested to replace it this is only 80$ each shock. A bargain. The Koni 88s the CS rep suggested to replace the originals were about .75" larger so closer to not fitting and also 220$ each. The other models in the Gabriel 89400 model series were made for frieghtliners, class A motorhomes, GMC 4500/5000/5500 trucks, so I think these will be perfect for a "truck" grossing at 4700Kg max.        |

On today's episode of man vs periscope....
..The periscope won  Drill 3/4 holes in the periscopes. Put the slide hammer in it. Jerked it like I was a lot lizard with a nasty drug habit. Didn't budge one bit. Hit it a bunch with a hammer and chisel. I think it budged a tiny bit on one side or maybe it was my mk1 eye balls. It won today. |

Ordered the shocks today.
Monroe 65474 It’s made for Peterbilt COE and other semi trucks so it should be okay. Mounts match up, dimensions not sure on but the length compressed and extended is perfect. Arrives on Monday, I’ll test fit and order more if it’s a good match |

The monroe shock tech line is absolutely worthless.
Worthless. They had no information on rebound or compression rates other than they were made for older peterbilt trucks. Atleast they had the OD of the upper and lower body mounts. 2 3/4 and 2 3/8ths for upper/lower. It'll fit. It'll get here monday, so I'll test fit it and install one and if it fits, order 3 more. Yes, I ordered these parts off rock auto and Amazon. God bless America

 20 ton shop press assembled and just waiting on the tap and die kit to thread the mounting plate for the air jack  Parts washer bench grinder and pedestal assembled  I’m determined this next week I’m going to finish the interior of the Roland. I just have so many other things to do-cut the grass, chop down some trees, change the oil in the wife’s car, rotate the tires, take the dogs to the vet. |

It's the same setup they had originally except it was powered by heat from the engine through coolant. I'm bypassing that and putting a 12vdc heater in. Success!
Dodge 3rd gen 17" rims fit perfectly and we have a wide variety of LT truck tires to choose from. One of the nice things about shopping with a local business is they are local and not just employees. They are about 5 miles from my house so it's nothing to zip down there. The owner of the tire shop gave me the 16" rim and told me to see if it fit. I asked him how much I owed him. He said nothing, just bring it back if it doesn't fit. Well, it didn't fit. I had a hell of a day with my phone dying (dead mainboard, 4013 error code) and I went by the shop and they checked a dodge 17" rim..perfect fit. It's a steel rim with a chrome cover. I will wire wheel the rim, rip off the chrome, and paint it in the sloppiest manner possible He charged 60$ for one and I asked him to get 4 more since in a month I would be getting the tires. That gives me 4 plus a spare. Perfect. We will probably go with 275/285 tires in 12 ply. Plenty strong enough for an 11k vehicle and a semi-AT tread that is lightyears better than the NDT tires that were on it. I left one of the roland tires there so they could find something in the same size and width. because my phone died I don't have pics but the rim fits perfectly. |
