What is a takedown 10/22? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Ruger's new 10/22 that is designed to have the barrel come off easily and thus be taken down. It'll be interesting to see what the aftermarket community does for it. |

Impressed with the design, but I haven't had a chance to wring it out yet. Hopefully this weekend... |

Did the rail have to be cut? Notched out....look at the lay out on the tape. |

What are they running? The guy at Academy told me they'd be getting some in this weekend and expected them to be around $350.

What did you use to make the cuts? 20 I used a chop off wheel, hack saw, and a file.....too small of job to fire up the mill. took about 10 mins.....would have took longer than that to clamp it in the mill. |

Cool. What are your thoughts so far? I've been wanting a 10/22 for years and finally picked one up from a friend last week. I like the idea of the takedown though.
|
|
I have to say that looks bad ass.
Can I ask why you went with a scout rail over just a receiver rail? I opted for a receiver rail and a scope with QD rings. I might get some 77/22 sights as I was told there are 1/8" taller that the 10/22. Which are somewhat hard to see past the rail. Whats your backup plan if the scope goes down for some reason doing a hike or whatever? |

The scout rail and something like a Fastfire or Trijicon RMR would be ideal for that gun. Might even think about "melting" the optic into the rail for an even lower mount.

Quoted: I just got a butler creek folder......hmmmm... I've had one for years, good stocks IMHO. For this project (using the TD model), I would think the AGP folder might also make an interesting option. I've been on the bubble about trying one, maybe I'll just go ahead and bite... |

Nice work man, that looks pretty cool. Will it still fit into the backpack thing the rifle comes with?

|
Pretty exciting. I am looking for one of those but they are hard to find

You also could have placed a block, or cross bolt, across the stock that fits into the receiver/trigger frame gap. Which would limit up and down movement without placing pressure on the receiver.

I cerakoted the gun black, cut barrel to 16.25 and threaded the barrel. Still thinking about optics. I mounted a scope on the gun, but it seem to change the handling characteristics too much. Thinking about a Trijicon RMR or mini ACOG Sweet.... |

did you shim the back of the scout rail to get it off the barrel lock nut?....or cut the excess material out?

Just to keep terms straight, a short eye relief scope is a standard scope. like most deer rifles use. An Intermediate eye relief scope is what you want, as it is commonly referred-to as a Scout scope. Extended eye relief scopes are usually pistol scopes. However, some Burris variable-power pistol scopes have the ability to be very nice Scout scopes, and I suggest you consider them. Not cheap, but quality seldom is so. Slap an inexpensive red-dot on there for proof of concept, and then start saving. |

Barrel cut and suppressor permanently pinned. Everything cerakoted black. Appears to be very nice-looking workmanship. However, it's my strong belief that every firearm must have some sort of decent BUIS system; even the best optics have failed. I am surprised that you did not include same. |

I don't doubt you; I've done it myself on different Scout rail-equipped firearms. Not my idea of a decent BUIS, though. |

For the roll that I would put that gun in, BUIS are not required. This is range toy, not a defensive firearm.
Echo: On that groove in the rail, you are correct. Before I got a scope on it, I was shooting 2 liters at 50 yards.
