Prepping for grout today. Floor was a pain in the ass. Couldn't find self leveler in time so tried the trowel on stuff and it sucked. Also, can you spot my mistake? What do you get when two tired physicists do tile?

It's been almost two years now since a tornado took my weekend house (while I was in it), the house was built on top of the garage. Initially we just needed to get a roof over the garage so we'd have somewhere dry to store what was left. We built a more traditional home next door to the garage and live here full time. I'm finishing out the room over the garage now. It'll have a couple of beds, full bath, sink, and a small sitting area. It's 34'x16' to the short walls. Storage behind the walls.
After the framing & roof I've done all the work myself so it's moving at a snails pace. The pine siding isn't my favorite but the interior of the old house was all pine so it's for nostalgia as much as anything else. I used the salvaged siding in the second pic to build a small room inside the garage below. I hope to have all the walls except the inside of the bathroom finished today. Finished up the pine, painted the drywall, clear coated the pine, and got a lot of the flooring in. Also dropped off an old claw foot tub to get powder coated. I should be wrapping up on this guest room by summer. It's the last of my tornado recovery projects.

Not 100% done but this project is no longer priority 1 for me. I moved the tools down this morning. I still have some cabinets to find, ceiling fans to install, a couple of circuits to tie in etc but the heaving lifting is done.

Installed the tub/shower in my (guest)room over garage yesterday. I'm going to fab up a shower curtain rod from 3/4" copper tubing but I'm afraid it's always going to be a trick taking a shower without flooding the bathroom. I finally put the ceiling fans up too. When I started this project in Oct the goal was to be completed by Sept. I still need to find something to mount a lavatory in the bathroom and sink in the "kitchen area".

I was given this Ryobi table saw many years ago and the original switch would not stay on without propping it up.
I looked up how to change that to a light switch and got the rewiring done today. The original setup had the white wires from the motor and cord being coupled together and black wires going to the switch. I put the power cord's black wire onto the black screw of the switch and the other black wire from the motor onto the gold screw. Wrapped electrical tape around the switch and kept testing it until I was sure I could button everything up. If and when I have to do that again, it'll be much easier next time. I bought this from my SIL on Wednesday on my way to the range.
She'd purchased this house as an historical restoration a few years ago and has been working on it the whole time. When I saw it in the dungeon of a basement, I asked if I could do a restoration on it. That was probably in 2018 or 2019. I finally decided to make a cash offer on it last week and she attempted to give it to me as a birthday gift. I refused and we agreed the cash would go toward paying her sons, my nephews, for work done on the home.  Attached File Attached FileI've been on the hunt for a Wilton bullet for 5 years. Progress made today.
Got the weld ground off and old jaws removed. I was not sure if the C0 jaws had a pin in the middle like other Wilton vises do. I basically ground off top down until I saw the jaw line across the top and cleaned up the sides after. Approximately 1/8" was removed from the top.  Attached FileI was not sure how the jaws were installed on the vise, as some Wiltons have an index pin in the middle of each jaw. This model does not. I need to get some new jaws made now and decide whether or not to make them from aluminum or some other soft material. I could go with new steel jaws and get some copper wraps to go over as a secondary material. |

Because we live in an extremely dry area, I installed an 1,100 gallon water storage tank so we can drink rainwater all year round.
(we also built the house)  It easily connects to the rain gutter downspout after the first rain of the wet season washes the dust off the clay tile roof. It only takes 6 inches of rainfall to fill it up |

Dishwasher day.
 Everything looks fine to me.  O.K., maybe the filter is just a little bit plugged. That explains why the dishwasher wasn't filling with water.  A new water inlet valve and about an hour of time, and the dishwasher was back up and running. It almost sounded happy, being able to run a complete wash cycle again.

Just received a set of jaws for my C0 in the mail today.
I want the jaws to sit a little proud of the body so there's going to have to be a little material removal on the right side. I also need to figure out the best way to straighten the jaws so they are parallel vertically and when closed.  Attached File Attached File |

Made a little more progress on the Wilton C0 today.
When I went to measure for the end cap, I was getting different measurements on my calipers. Some were 1.64, some were 1.66, etc. I hunted down 2 Dorman expansion plugs and bought a 1.643 and 1.67 OD. The 1.643 could be made to work, if the OD were flared out a little. I hate plumbing repairs. I despise metal plumbing repairs. Just before supper my wife informs me the bathroom sink plumbing is leaking. I take a look and the p trap is rusted through. Taking the thing a part I end up with pieces. Steel P trap rusted to heck. Luckily the hardware store had the exact replacement part.

Installed a decorative glass insert in my front door.
Took about 2.5 hours to measure, cut & install the glass and another hour to tape & paint the trim. Before:  After:  Makes a big difference with light in the entryway and looks great with the contemporary design of my house. |

Thanks. Each one gets better as I’m learning technique. I notice smaller imperfections that the recipients probably won’t but will try to make the next ones a little nicer. These are for adult Scoutimg volunteers hence the 12 knots in the lanyards

Plumbed a new wash sink in the laundry room.
I bought the sink and thought I would give a local outfit some business since my schedule is always booked with meetings. Got 3 quotes ranging from $300 - $350 labor and materials. I went to Home Depot on Saturday and did it for less than $60.  |

I have to say, I really enjoy seeing the diversity of skillz here!
This was my latest project. I replaced the craptastic OEM Harley compensator with a Darkhorse Man O' War. This involved upgrading the rotor cover to a newer style--that required pulling the inner primary cover. Since I was already in there, I replaced the primary chain tensioner, starter, primary shaft bearings and seals/gaskets, including the 5 sealed bolts that hold the primary to the motor. 4 hours of my time, but now I don't have the HD starter 'clunk' when I start it up. The primary noise is much quieter while running, and the bike starts much easier when hot. No oil leaks or seeps--I'm pretty pleased with the way it all worked out.
