R.I.P. Detective Hobbs.

This was a nice table set for Detective John Hobbs.  The letter reads:

"Table set for one symbolizes the absence of our beloved officer.

White tableware is symbolic of the purity of his intentions to

respond to the need in his community.

Single red rose signifies the blood that was shed in sacrifice for

                                                                                our safety and freedom.

Yellow ribbon represents the ribbons worn on the labels of

those who demand rememberance of their loved one.

Slice of lemon represents the bitter fate of his loss.

Salt sprinkled on the plate is symbolic of the countless fallen

                                                                              tears of family and friends.

Inverted glass is to represent the fact that the fallen cannot

                                                                                           partake.

Empty chair symbolizes the fallen that is not present.

Candle is reminiscent of the light of hope which lives in our

hearts to illuminate his way home."

I just returned from attending the "2nd session" of the PLEA bbq (4 pm - 8 pm) where lots of folks showed up -- members of Phoenix PD, Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies, Phoenix Firefighters -- even our Governor made an appearance. It was uplifting to see so many in the community attend the event and lend their support to John's and Detective Casados' families. But, it was also very sad seeing that singular table set aside for John (and being acutely reminded, again, that he's no longer with us).

I was there tonight as well. That lone table hit me hard.

I did dislike all the news hounds wandering through and asking to interview people.
The channel 10 blonde wanted to know "What brought you out here?" Really, isn't it a little obvious?

The reporters where still there? I went around 12 noon to PLEA and the line was a block long to get in. Gave $35  since I'm not working right now and going to school. Quite a few LEO from different departments there.

I think I saw you outside as I was leaving ... it's been awhile, so you probably didn't recognize me. News "pests" were everywhere -- inside as well.

So sorry to hear - is there any donation page that goes directly to our fallen brother?  I didn't read through all 11 pages but I did see something mentioned about a site that was a general charity for situations such as this.

Why is it always the good ones?

Sounds like a guy who was in law enforcement for the right reasons, did his job damn well and was one of "us".

And why is it always dirtballs with a rap sheet a mile long who have no reason being on the streets that are the ones that take guys like this from us?

Shit ain't right.

RIP Det Hobbs, thank you for your service.

RIP Hobbs.

This man gave his life in the service of his own community, that in itself speaks volumes of the character of the man. Take comfort in that he is in a much better place now. A place without want nor suffering nor pain, for eternity. Our time here is only temporary, but what we may choose to do with the time we are given can make a lasting difference upon our subsequent generations. He has clearly left a high standard for all of us to look to.

Godspeed, friend.
