Going camping/shooting coming up in late June and am going to take the dog.. if i can do it safely hearing wise.

He is still a puppy, almost 6 months old, a jack Russel/Australian shepherd mix, very smart and not jumpy at all.  Thunder the other night did not even phase him.

Setup: I am going to set up camp a little ways from the firing line area, but he will need to be around me due to predators in the area so he will be exposed to gunfire.  It will be too warm for him to be in the car during those times as well.

Do any of the dog ear pro like mutt muffs, work?

Here is Charlie.  He is about 20lbs in these photos from last week.

Get him some muffs and get him used to them before you need them.
Don't leave them on him for a prolonged period if it's warm out, their ears are their radiators.

He's got some floppers, so you'll probably need a larger size that his head will grow into.

And thanks!

I have a set of Mutt Muffs. They seem to work OK. I've put them on my ears and they are not nearly as good as a set of human ear protectors, but they are better than nothing. I've used them on my dogs for both shooting and for motorcycle racing (hanging out in the pits). Both dogs seemed more comfortable once they became acclimated to wearing them.

You might also consider some eye protection, too.

For a one time session, it will not be a problem.  Never had an issue with any of my labs and they are hunting 4 months+ out of the year, exposed to ALOT of gunfire.
