Did my daily five miles around the neighborhood. It was bit windy but very nice.
My first attempt at an OTB photograph. Harder than it looks. I had to stand behind the bike, holding the rear wheel between my legs, while keeping the handlebars pointed straight. I can't wait to try it on a real ride, with some decent scenery. Attached File |

Possibly the last weekend without snow in the mountains, so we headed up to Granby, CO for a one night camp trip. Might as well take the bike, right?

Went out for a second short ride. Im attempting to learn clipless pedals.
First try... didn't go well. Tried again today, getting a little better. I have them installed on my lefty fatbike cause falling in sand sucks just a bit less. Attached File |

I started using them a few years back, just finally got a pair of shoes that fit me and work well with my pedals so I can get in and out much easier now. I definitely like the power they give to scuff the bike laterally, and for sucking the bike up on a hop or jump, but sometimes I miss the ease of throwing a foot down. I still use flats on most of my bikes, for various reasons. Nice rides BtW. I'm jealous, my time is very constrained these days |

Am I confused? kind of but there's a lot too it. Turns out, from a bio mechanical standpoint the optimum crank length is 20% inseam. I had been running 175's. honestly because when I was building the bike it was the only thing available. It made pedaling through rocky areas more difficult, but I also noticed some knee pain. I was talking about it with a friend who was a pro bike mechanic (and still builds wheels and does limited services) he said the 175's were crazy long, an the industry was behind on this he's a bit taller than me and runs 155s. basics to it. -you do lose a bit of leverage but make up for it in being able to easily maintain a higher cadence. a shorter front ring makes up the difference and you do find yourself shifting a lot more. -the knee pain is gone. -unfortunately you have to move the saddle up so effectively its like having a shorter dropper. -to me I felt more centered on the bike in the corners. -the clearance allows you to pedal through some more chunk before having to ratchet. -more traction on lose climbs as the power delivery is smoother. -despite what they all say, you do have less power when you really lean into it. -you can stand and crank at higher cadences and you get less burned out doing so. just like everything it boils down to personal preference, for me it worked out, for others it might not. Ha! I started using them a few years back, just finally got a pair of shoes that fit me and work well with my pedals so I can get in and out much easier now. I'm jealous, my time is very constrained these days Half my friends ride clipped in. they swear by it. and to be fair they are the faster riders... so I thought I'd give it a try. I grew up snowboarding, so I figured being stuck wouldn't be that big of a deal. turns out its not even close to the same optimally I'd like to be able to switch back and forth depending on where I'm going to ride. |

There's tons of cycling infrastructure here with access to hundreds of miles of trails. The hills with the rivers give you a choice of flat and fast or unlimited elevation. Ended up spending more time exploring on the road than I did on my both my mountain bikes combined. |
