An old project sitting in my cabinet unused.  Oiled it up to give to my daughter since she will get some good use out of it.

Lesson learned on this.  I cut the accent strip and flipped it over 180 degrees vertically.  In other words, the top became the bottom.  The walnut was considerably darker on the bottom.  It would have been better to flip the accent piece 180 degrees horizontally, which would have resulted in the same effect, but the colors would have been similar.

Made a thing to help get the tapered tooling out of the lathe once pressed in.

Jaw chuck came in the mail. So looking forward to playing with that.

I kinda like the off color strip! Adds more oomph to the board RLR350.
Be careful on that chuck ShootinDave as I posted before somehow my one chuck as morphed into eight! And I have two more sets of jaws coming in this week to go with who knows how many I already have!

Thanks.  Not terribly hard.  The mallet head is mortised just by virtue of using two pieces (one on either side of the tenon) for the center section.   Tenon the handle first and size the mortise around that.

Great project for using up smallish scraps.  You could make all kinds of weird patterns in the mallet head if you have the patience to do all the glue-ups.

I like your turnings by the way.

After a 5 day bout with killer arthritis and back pain I was able to spend a few hours in the shop today. Thank goodness Tylenol and Advil can keep it to a dull ache! Picked up a half a pickup load of Walnut today and decided to turn one that's still wet. Rough turn is complete and it is in a bag with shavings to hopefully dry without cracks.

Laid down the first few pieces of a 13'6" rowboat build project I'm starting. I'm planning to CNC all the frame/girder construction structure and ideally the hull planks, as well as any interior pieces that can be machined. I am still working out the plan to fixture and pass through longer materials on my small CNC table. This is station mold 2 which is 2d from the back. It will be part of a largely MDF structure that the hull is shaped around and then removed/discarded.

This is the end goal

So, you're taking that whole "Lost all of my guns in a boating accident" to the extreme, eh?

Looks like you're getting a nice fit on those parts.  This looks like a pretty ambitious project, best of luck to ya!

This would be the hardest and most complicated way to lose guns in a boating accident

It is a tight fit on those parts. Drawn with 0 clearance as a test piece and it worked OK so continuing with that method. They might be destroyed if they ever need to be taken apart. I listed my machine for sale last year to upgrade to a larger one and someone asked how tight of tolerances it cuts. I drew and cut some test blocks to measure with a caliper and found every axis cutting within .003" over the span of about 3" test block. There may be slightly more runout on a longer operation but I expect it stays pretty dang tight.

Side project to cut an opening gate in the back of my CNC enclosure to allow parts to feed through. This will be essential to machine longer parts like the planks of the boat and girders of the building frame. The gate will also be nice to be able to vacuum around the back

I was hoping to have more parts cut this weekend but I need to rip down MDF sheets to fit in the machine. It's been raining outside and I don't like to saw MDF in the garage so that will wait for better weather.

My sister is always using the excuse:
"Yah but" You know, yah but it was raining! Yah but it was on sale! Yah but it was blue! Yah but etc. etc.
One day I looked at her and said: What's a yabut? Are they little creatures that jump in the woods? Now it's a running joke every time she says it!
Today I caught one! I will surprise her hopefully this weekend.
