Wanted to try something whimsical. Spalted Birch balloon and spalted Maple base. Old growth pine for the basket. Copper wires for the ropes.
Not sure if I'm going to color it or leave it natural.

Pizza cutter turned from apricot wood. These are seriously heavy duty. I built this using a threaded brass insert so the cutter can be removed for easy cleaning.
Yes, I still have a Christmas table cloth on. Don't judge me. 😁

Very nice
Was the maple from your firewood pile?  I’ve let some go to spalted and most have worked out very nice.    It’s all timing.

Made this today - Japanese style tool chest/box - it’s too small for a tool box but I like how the lid locks in with a sliding dovetail wedge

My first productive day in a while. A couple of pizza cutters in walnut and Great Basin figured poplar, lighters in osage orange and red dyed and stabilized spalted maple, and a key rack from live edge cherry that I milled out of a piece of firewood with a walnut Mississippi insert. I still need to pull the hooks back off, sand, and finish.

Playing around with a piece of apple wood. Made a wobble bowl. Also tried to get it as shiny as possible. Put two coats of walnut oil and two coats of poly. Then buffed and polished. Came out ok. I think it's still to cold for things to dry correctly. Can see brush marks if looking closely. Might sand it all off and start again if I can pry it away from the wife! She loves it!

Very nice.

Out of curiosity what drawer slides did you use? I've been thinking of using the under drawer on a project I'm planning. I have no experience with them so have been looking for advice on them.

Looks like nice work!
I'm an absolute drawer snob..... can't stand cheap-ass drawers or slides. Dovetail, no nails, no hot glue, and NO CHIP_BOARD!!!
Either BLUM or K&V undermount drawer slides are what I use.
Blum preferred, K&V has more length options. Both are high quality and are mostly interchangeable save for the slide locks.

I prefer undermount slides.
Both side-mount and undermount slides are critical about width. A quarter inch off and you'll be re-making the drawers.
Undermount slides are also a bit picky about drawer depth.

To help with the cut list, I made an Excel spreadsheet that I enter the drawer opening height, width, and slide length dimensions into.
It calculates my cut list for me.

made a shelf for the wife for our Loft.
It was originally going to be Ray/Quarter sawn White Oak.
Well I had all The Oak rough sawn out and she changed her mind.
Maple, so I started rough sawing some Red Maple, turned out most of it had curls in it, too nice for a painted thing.
Was about to dig out more Maple and start sawing it up when she changed her mind again. Paint it this time.

So I ended up using mostly Sugar Maple and the bead boards are Red Maple.
After it was up for about 1-2 months the bead board shrank considerably, I had to touch up paint after the top and bottom gabs opened up and the it shrank about 1/2" left to right.
I think that the wood was not dried long enough. I cut it myself about a year ago and had it sawn by a local dude.
Thankfully I made the bead board panel as a assembly that could float.

Another sewing room cabinet for the wife.
Ray/quarter sawn White Oak.
The drawer sides and back along with the guides are Sugar Maple.
Made it look similar to one I made previously thats a earlier post in this thread.

the corner posts are mitered so that there is no end grain visible from front or side.

Shows how I make the drawer guides/slides.

Bottom of drawer showing guide on bottom of drawer.
The bottom guide is pocketed in the front and back of the drawer.
The guide is glued to the drawer bottom and front and back, makes for a very sturdy drawer.

I'm still learning and figuring alot out as I go.
I'm very new to all this so I consider myself a rookie.
The wife already has a project for me to make another cabinet for the kitchen, it'll have a Sugar Maple top and the rest will be painted, so I'll use Red Maple for the rest, more bead board on the sides and cabinet doors.
Give me a couple of months, summers busy so less wood working gets done.
I'll do better on the this job. I have drawers figured out pretty good at this point.
