Just one anecdote -
I know someone close who "may have" gotten the A-model of the virus, likely before the pandemic was known (stuck in an office environment with travelers, some of whom just came back to the US from lunar new year ).

Grievous cough. Shortness of breath.  
They were early 30s, gym-rat, also biked. (The type to bench 300lbs every week, and then bike 45min home).
They had this nagging cough for a month, described the pain in their lungs as they laid down on their back.

Post COVID their exercise capacity never really returned to normal.
Naturally because they believed their TV, they got jabbed, things got worse.


I go back and forth on Long COVID, and believe most "I WANT ATTENTION" lefties are using it for attention.
I do kinda think there's a chance that there's a small % of people, for whom, if they had the worst of the symptoms (or were hospitalized for a month) came out the other side less than 100% and don't quite get back up to it.
I think it's a small % not the majority, I'm talking 3-4%, and that's of people who had it for awhile.

(Digging into my memory here: Long Lyme is a thing some believe in, I don't remember what the "official science" on it says, but there's some debate on the existence of Long Lyme, and people suffering with it over years are not always sure about what to do with it.)

There's belief by some that "Long Vax" is a thing, if that's the case, I kinda think Long COVID could possibly be real, in "runaway" cases where the immune system lost control.

Four years after Covid-19 forced widespread shutdowns of businesses and schools across the U.S., 59% of Americans believe the pandemic is over. At the same time, about as many, 57%, report that their lives have not returned to normal, and 43% expect they never will.

National worry about contracting Covid-19 is near its lowest point in the trend dating back to the early days of the pandemic — although, as has been the case throughout the pandemic, Democrats express much more concern about Covid-19 than Republicans do.

The impact of the coronavirus on the public since emerging as a global threat in 2020 is evident in the finding that seven in 10 U.S. adults report having had Covid-19 at least once.

These findings are from a March 5-11 update to Gallup’s probability-based Covid-19 web panel tracking poll, which began in March 2020.

Majority of Americans, but Not Democrats, Say Pandemic Is Over

Gallup has tracked Americans’ perceptions of whether the pandemic is over in the U.S. since June 2021, during the Covid-19 vaccine rollout when most Americans received their first shot. But it was not until late May/early June 2023 that a majority thought it was over.

This was shortly after President Joe Biden signed a congressional resolution to end the nation’s state of emergency and the U.S. and global public health emergency declarations ended.

Fewer, though still a slim 53% majority, continued to believe it had come to an end in late August/early September.

The latest 59% of Americans who believe the pandemic is over is up slightly from late last summer but is still shy of the positivity expressed last May/June.



Republicans (79%) are almost twice as likely as Democrats (41%) to say the pandemic is over, while 63% of independents agree.

Majorities of Republicans have thought the pandemic is over since April 2022, and majorities of independents have said the same since February 2023.

In contrast, only once, in May/June 2023, has a majority of Democrats agreed the pandemic is over.

If you’re vaccinated and get Covid, it’s the fault of someone who’s unvaccinated.

If you’re unvaccinated and get Covid and aren’t very sick, you’re just lucky and it’s only a matter of time before it still kills you. And natural immunity is a myth; you would still be much better off getting vaccinated.

If you’re vaccinated and get Covid and aren’t very sick, it’s because you were vaccinated, even though CDC says most cases among both vaccinated and unvaccinated are mild or without symptoms.

The vaccines prevent hospitalization and death. However, If you’re vaccinated and get hospitalized with Covid, you would have been even sicker if not vaccinated.

If you died of Covid after vaccination, such as Colin Powell did, it wasn’t the vaccine’s fault, or Covid’s fault: vaccines work. It must have been co-morbidities.

If you died of Covid without vaccination and had multiple other serious illnesses, you died because of Covid.

If you died “with” Covid, but Covid wasn’t the cause, even if you were part of a murder-suicide, you’re a Covid death. In other words: every conceivable way to count a Covid death is used.

If you died after vaccination of an illness such a blood clot or heart attack, you’re not a possible vaccine death. The vaccines have no side effects other than a pinch at the injection site. In other words, there is nothing that qualifies as a vaccine death.

If you die after vaccination, there is “no evidence” the vaccine caused it.

If you die and had Covid at any time recently, even asymptomatically, you are counted as a Covid death.

If you get ill after vaccination, it wasn’t because of the vaccine that caused your illness, it had to be anything else.

If you get Covid and are unvaccinated, it has to be because you’re unvaccinated, and you deserve it. You’re killing others.

If you get Covid within two weeks of vaccination, you’re not counted as a Covid illness among vaccinated.

As long as you’re vaccinated, even though your viral load when infected is the same as the unvaccinated, and even though multitudes of vaccinated people are getting sick with Covid and spreading Covid effectively, you can go to work and go places where unvaccinated people cannot because you don’t get or spread Covid.

Unvaccinated health care workers, even those who are immune to Covid, must be fired to protect the public health, even though it’s leaving hospitals and the health care industry without enough workers to protect the public health.

The more people who get vaccinated, the more Covid cases, illnesses, and deaths we experience. Obviously, that means more people need to get vaccinated.

The current vaccines were highly effective against the Omicron variant. Therefore, we developed new vaccines to use against the Omicron variant.

WA Gov Inslee said if you're unvaxxed, it's like you're carrying a nuclear bomb. Basically called us domestic terrorists.

I met a guy who was a tow truck driver. He was, up to 6 months before, a WSDOT incident response driver (if there's a crash that needs blocked, or people run out of gas, or debris on freeway, they handle it) but was fired because he wouldn't get the shot.

Waiting to see the backlash when some asshat says "no one got fired over the vax!"

Neighbor was a DOT electrical inspector. Granted him his exemption but said they couldn't accommodate it since he came in contact with contractors on the side of the freeway.........

I got the original known strain.  I think conflating 'Long COVID" where every possible issue you encounter after COVID is to be laid on as a 'long' symptom and the real changes to sense of smell as well as lung capacity is not correct.  I ABSOLUTELY know my lung capacity is far less than it was.  That transformation was immediate and never rebounded.  I get winded so much easier now that I have all but quit hiking and backpacking.  It's just no longer enjoyable to do.  Over time I have seen some improvement and of course I continue my journey closer to being under the grass which also has an impact but the virus was pretty well known to damage lung tissue and that's exactly what it did to me.
