Taking four loads of nitrogen to a customer tonight.  For a grand total of 50 miles.  I do this run at least once a week and don't care for it.  It does pay pretty well though.

Any interesting jobs a guy with a class b can get?
Ive had my class b for years yet haven't driven a CDL truck in about 5 years.
I've always looked at it as a fall back worst case scenario that I could go drive a dump or trash truck if I needed a decent job.

Get your tanker endorsement and haul frac water in the oilfield. I used to do that, straight tankers and combination. Good money too.

@subnet

Very cool, regarding your first point.

As far as the second, I would let a couple folks know about the new sub forum.    The issue is I don’t have social media to share it on.    I’d of course send a link along to a few people I know, but the overlap between people I know, people in the industry, and people that would be interested in an online forum, doesn’t have a ton of overlap.

My truck is supposedly ready at the Peterbilt store up in Effingham, IL.

No word on what was wrong with it, but I'll wager it's a case of "We hooked up the computer and can't find any codes and we test drove it and everything is working".

I'll be riding bitch with someone next week.

That is generally true, depending on the type of work being done. Most of the grunt labor has fairly shitty hourly rates, like when I worked for FTS doing sand, or at Great Plains doing water transfer. When I did wellhead and flowback, the pay rates were almost triple for a similar amount of hours worked.

Hauling water and chems paid far better. Most Class B work in the oilfield will be water or fuel. Both pay pretty well depending on who you work for. Best gig I had out there was hauling sandboxes.

$5 says you are correct.

Is that 389 an automatic? Never seen one of those without a manual, but I know they make one. I think every one of our new 389s has a 13 speed manual.

I just turned one down (again) the other day. As pretty as that hood is, I won’t trade my non DEF truck for one. She’s just been too good to me to give her up.

There are more trucks with automatics being produced nowadays. I would bet there are a few trucks (Volvo/Mack) that might not even offer a manual anymore.

They’ve become commonplace enough that the auto only restriction on the license had to become a thing. If you take your test on an auto, that’s all you may legally drive.

I’ll not surrender my 13 speed, unless it were for an 18 speed in the same truck.

I learned on a 10 speed, drove one for years. Now a 10 speed just feels all wrong. It’s missing a few gears, and one of them is in the wrong place.

Sadly the crew of one scale house here is mostly retired now.  But 5 years ago, I would have volunteered to haul a load of bees for free, as long as I was fairly overweight. Just wanted to pull across the scale, get the Yellow light, put my bee suit on, tap the hives with a hammer as I walk in to meet the DOT lady and say "well, those bees oughta be awake now lets get the tape measure out and figure up my ticket!"
