Not a damn thing this week.  Truck is in the shop and we have nothing but shitty spares available.

Fuggit, I'll take my high dollar PTO and be productive and get shit done this week.

One of my doctors had an opening in their schedule with less than 24 hours' notice.  I also got the F-threefiddy's tires rotated today.

Amazing what you can do when you aren't working 70 hours

Ahhh gotcha.

My wife is a therapist. Works 20 hours per week to make what I make working 50-60 hours per week. I enjoy my job most of the time, and she doesn’t want to work more than those 20 per week. So it’s all good.

But you better believe I remind her often that she could do 35-40 hours per week and I’ll be the best damn stay at home dad there ever was. I ain’t too proud to do it all. I’ll do laundry, grocery shopping, and cook every goddamn day. And still make it to the range twice a week!

So for now, there’s no need to rock this currently steady boat.

But when she’s ready…

Started in '89 with 12 wheels,  9yd³, 64k.  Then, 14 wheels , 10yd³, 72k. Next, 16 wheels, 11yd³, 78k. Now, 18 wheels, 11yd³, 80k. Granted, a lot of the mixes are higher slump (more fluid) but these guys coming up now can't seem to understand that they need to adjust the drum speed for inclines. So now they have bigger drums, heavier trucks, for the same size load, so they don't spill. And they all know everything, can't tell 'em. So glad I retired.
Was that a rant?

After picking up the truck and filling up at the shithole Pilot in Brazelton, GA I drove down to Greenville, AL (45 minutes south of Montgomery).  I got up this morning and drove the remaining 605 miles back to Houston.  Easy money.

Seven other drivers went up there as well and they picked up complete transports.  We now have 24 2024 trucks.

These 2024 models are nice.  I particularly like the adaptive cruise control.  The digital dash, while nice, blacked out two separate times at speed and seemed to reboot.  It took 30-45 seconds each time.

This section might be better for getting info on your tri-axle question.

My answer is, it depends.    You area, what kind of contract you can get, if you’ll have your own authority, or be leased on, and other factors.     If you can give us an idea of what experience you have, and what type of work you have locally, that would be a good start.

10000% chance you crossed paths with many of our tankers, dump wagons, and tandem dump trucks on that ride down 85, especially once you were back south of the airport.

I wasn’t around though. I was out toward Augusta and stayed in a hotel for the night. I used to just do my runs and head home, but we’ve all been advised that we need to color within the lines from here on out. Understandable.

It was kind of nice to shut her down and have 10+ hours of no obligation of any kind.

Private vehicles or auction vehicles being shipped.

Putting a piece of tape over a plate is easier to that removing it and losing the screws or whatever.

I get its easier.
I guess Im missing how the whole car sale process works.... I would have thought that when you get rid of your car, You would take the plate off....

I understand about covering the plates of fleet vehicles with all the plate readers and I hadn't thought of that so thanks for explaining.

Port of Houston.  Taking them to Midlothian Mid-Tex.

VW Group doesn't have the space to process everything at the port of Houston so they transport the vehicles 250 miles to DFW.

This will change next year when VW's new distribution hub opens up at Port Freeport.

The long hood really is the best hood. Even this spare that gets passed around and has 306k more miles on it than mine rides soooo much nicer than my T800. Pulls a little better too with that 15L Cummins vs my 12.7 D60. But I’d never say that on front of my T800 haha.

I much prefer the 13 speed on mine though. This 10 speed is shorter on flexibility, and one of the gears is in the wrong place! Ask me how many times I briefly ground the fuck out of “6th” gear this morning. 5th to accidental 7th doesn’t flow.

We transloaded a 140k transformer from a 13 axle OTR broker truck onto my Highway Max and took it up in the hills west of Canon City, CO to a sub station. The road was a glorified 2 track, not the best conditions for moving 252,000 lbs. It turned into a 21 hour day for me and needing our 265 ton crane to drag me up the hills to get to the substation.

We partially slide off the road a few times and got precariously close to tipping once as the road edges gave way.

Loaded and ready (well not really, 150 feet later we had to chain up and get a tow from the crane)

Stuck, waiting for the crane:

Finally getting into the substation 3 hours later:
