My SW is 12* bounce and I have LW in 4/8/10 bounce depending on conditions. If you like to open the face around the green, it’s easier with grinds with heel and trailing edge relief. It keeps the leading edge closer to the ground. It’s really obvious in the store which grinds are better at this. If you live in western WA, you’ll probably be better off leaning towards higher bounce for the softer conditions. I probably use my LW for 70% of shots around the green, SW 20%, and something else 10%. View Quote Did a wedge clinic/fitting the other day. Pro said he uses two sets of wedges, a summer set (one week in August) and an everything else. So I didn't play but a few rounds last year due to a bad hernia, then surgery. By the time I could get out and start hitting balls again it was waterfowl season. I played one horrible round early February. I finally got tired of hitting the range, sometimes it was coming back, but mostly just bad. I called my old instructor & scheduled a lesson for today. I told him lets just start over like it's my first lesson. Right away he says "well, your grip is where it used to be, all wrong". Got that squared away and was still making bad contact. "Slow down, you're snatching the club away and your transition is so abrupt that you're coming over the top, again". And "you're at the top of your backswing and then you try to keep going. You're lifting up and/or swaying off the ball. And you're starting your downswing with your arms, not your hips". All of my old flaws were back. He said the main thing I need to focus on is slowing down my tempo. He also suggested a Orange Whip trainer to use at home. Any of you all use one?

I have an Orange Whip. I mainly use it to loosen up at the course or before I hit the range. I really need to use it to get my tempo right. It's an absolute mess right now. Way, way too fast.

View Quote Your instructor knows your swing, but that's 4 things to work on during one lesson. You specifically asked to start from scratch. I would find it difficult to have 4 things bouncing around in my head while trying to hit a golf ball. Since you mentioned training aids, I found one for you to evaluate. https://www.performancegolf.com/straight-stick I have not tried this product but it looks like it works on the areas your instructor identified while taking a couple of variables out of the equation. It appears it works while you hit shots, which is a bonus in my opinion. Something you can't do with the whip stick. I've tried that one and it feels more like a warm up tool that may help to build swing speed to me. I personally play my best with a quiet mind. Maybe one swing thought. Best 'lesson' I ever got was at a range in Sarasota. I was hitting warm up shots in front of an old guy parked on a bench, smoking a cigarette behind. I wasn't hitting it particularly poorly; just warming up. He wanders over and says, "son, I've had a top 10 finisher in every major except the masters. You got power to burn, I don’t know why you just don’t stay down on it" I knew what he meant, thanked him and took his swing thought to the course. Struck it wonderfully that day. I go back to his swing thought every time things start to go sideways. I would encourage you to practice with a purpose. Banging balls for the sake of repetition isn't typically the answer. Best of luck in your journey. |

Anyone do a club fitting at Club Champion? They're advertising a "free" (I know TANSTAAFL), fitting with club purchase. My instructor want's me off of my graphite shafted irons, and on some steel shafted cavitybacks.

I can play back to back 36 hole days on a guy's weekend with graphite shafts and have very little need for ibuprofen. Steel, not so much. At 54, score means less to me than comfort. |

Does anyone know if the old game Links 386 is available to play somewhere other than the original software on a PC ?
And while I’m thinking of it, what are the best golf games that work on an iPad ? |

Wasted $35 on this thing from the bargain bin.

I had elbow surgery for golfers elbow about 18 months ago because I couldn't take the pain any longer. Doc screwed it up and now I have less functionality in my fingers & wrist and the elbow is marginally better. My hand was fine prior to the surgery. I'm getting on the phone today to see another wrist, hand & elbow specialist to see if anything can be done. I hope your appointment goes well. I got new clubs recently, went with all graphite shafts except for the Vokeys. |
